As an Instructional Designer and Technical Writer, you provide IDRC employees with the information they require to learn and use IDRC systems, software and services effectively.
You locate or create high quality self-service learning material, often in the form of short e-learning videos or quick reference guides, for IDRC employees to learn from, at a time and place that is convenient for them. You maintain an extensive collection of self-help material on all systems and software IDRC uses. When appropriate, you also develop in person training courses or workshops to meet group learning needs.
You are responsible for all user related content produced by the division, including all divisional content on the intranet and in the service management tool. You ensure that this content promotes awareness of IMT services and tools, including recent changes. You work collaboratively with project managers, scrum masters, project teams, and subject matter experts to develop, write, and maintain easy-to-understand system documentation for IDRC audience. You keep abreast of developments in the field and stays plugged in to the local and online learning and technical writing community, in order to bring forward new ideas or solutions to current challenges.
•University degree or college diploma in communications, psychology, information technology, information studies or other relevant degree or diploma
•Minimum of three years of relevant work experience including:
otwo years designing and developing instructional material, particularly e-learning videos;
oone year in technical writing and editing in the areas of information technology software and systems (e.g. online help, reference guides, procedures);
oone year preparing and delivering training sessions to adults.
•Experience updating organizational policies would be an asset
•Experience working in information management would be an asset
•Bilingual position (English/French) at an advanced level
•Strong working knowledge of instructional design practices, curriculum design, training methodologies and online education
•Strong working knowledge of technical writing best practices
•Working knowledge of information gathering, planning and organizing methods and principles
•Working knowledge of adult training principles and methods
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Suite, SharePoint, Adobe Captivate and Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset
•Excellent written and oral communication skills, including instructional, facilitation and presentation skills, in both official languages
•Facility in communicating technical ideas in a user-friendly way
•Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on coaching / motivational skills, enthusiasm and positive attitude
•Ability to effectively set priorities, organize work and meet deadlines
•Ability to absorb new ideas and technical concepts quickly
•Demonstrated ability to create interesting and innovative learning content
•Highly self-motivated and self-directed.
