Brown and Caldwell, a national environmental engineering firm, has an exciting opportunity for an entry level engineer to work on design infrastructure projects for municipal and private sector clients in our El Paso, TX office. You will provide civil/mechanical engineering support for a variety of projects which may include planning, evaluation, design and construction related activities for wastewater, water and storm water conveyance systems, pumping systems, and provide part time to full time assistance to a major utility company for the coordination/acquisition of easements and related facilities.

Job Expectations:

In this role, you will work closely with project managers and other team members to execute work involving conventional types of civil engineering principals and other related activities for infrastructure projects.  In this role, you may also work outside the office and closely with a major utility company in a support services capacity. Specific duties may include the following:

  • Assist with design of water and wastewater pipelines and pumping stations.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverables
  • Assist with studies and alternative analysis
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing.
  • Assist with submittal reviews, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders for construction projects.
  • Conduct field work as necessary for various projects.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (drafters, designers, and other engineers).
  • Develop understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements for El Paso City and State
  • Assist with development of permitting plans and permit applications
  • Perform data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation
  • Obtain land title information from various title companies and government agencies.
  • Analyze legal land title information, research data, and determine rights necessary for the construction of facilities.
  • Prepare all legal documents, exhibits, applications, and all necessary correspondence for the acquisition of right-of-way.
  • Analyze and review all legal documents, permits, and construction requirements necessary to permit the release of projects for construction.
  • Negotiate for the purchase of land or land rights necessary for construction of electrical facilities.
  • Act as liaison to outside agencies and customers on right-of-way matters. Resolve encroachments, claims, landowner complaints, and inquiries into rights of way.



Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field required
  • EIT preferred
  • 2 years experience in the study, design, and construction administration of water and wastewater facilities
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills required
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record may be required
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Project) preferred
  • Experience using PDF software (Bluebeam Revu) preferred
  • Experience using engineering calculation software (MathCAD, MATLAB) preferred
  • Good work ethic essential
  • Good written and verbal communication skills essential
  • Previous related internship experience a plus but not necessary
