Description

Brown and Caldwell, a national environmental engineering firm, has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer specializing in buried infrastructure to provide engineering support to our project managers and teams. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who can help us fulfill our commitment to deliver client success on each project we undertake.

 

*This role has flexibility to be located in Irvine or San Diego, CA

 

Job Expectations

You will work with and be mentored by nationally recognized, senior technical staff. The ideal candidate should have strong verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized and capable of working in a diverse team environment, capable of handling multiple tasks with competing priorities, and ability to implement data gathering techniques in a variety of field conditions

  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with project managers, client service managers, technical advisors, project engineers, technical staff, marketing staff, and others
  • Assist in the development and preparation of technical documents including health and safety plans, condition assessment plans, technical memorandums, engineering reports, and electronic deliverables
  • Assist in the preparation of business development proposals and presentations
  • Communicate, coordinate and field check performance of subconsultants and subcontractors for conformity with inspection and condition assessment plans
  • Defect coding and assessment of water/wastewater pipeline systems and facilities

 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • BS Degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, etc.) or related field required
  • Candidates should either have a state of California PE license or be able to obtain one within 6 months of employment
  • Minimum 2 years of professional engineering experience desired
  • Experience in water/wastewater treatment and conveyance inspection and condition assessment strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with engineering plans, GIS mapping, conducting field inspections and reporting findings to senior technical staff
  • NASSCO PACP/MACP/LACP certified, or ability to become certified within 30-days of employment
  • NACE Institute General Corrosion (Corrosion Technician) or Pipeline Industry Program (Internal Corrosion Technologist) certified, or interest and ability to become trained and certified within 1-year of employment
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills and ability to work well independently and in team environments.
  • Highly attentive to detail, possess strong problem-solving skills, be teachable
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse local and virtual team environment
  • Capacity to successfully deliver on multiple tasks with competing priorities
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient with computers, mobile technologies and apps, cloud based data storage and retrieval, GPS, and GIS
  • Ability to wear required personnel protection equipment including hard hats, safety toed boots, hi-vis vest, safety glasses, etc. at project sites
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around traffic and inspection equipment and able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified
  • Agility to walk around project sites of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs, video and collect GPS data
  • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting inspection operations
  • Capability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold
  • Lift objects 30 pounds and less
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, and nighttime hours, as necessary
  • Travel to project locations, as necessary
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
