Description

We have an immediate need for an environmental field technician to support our client sites in Northern New Jersey. Position responsibilities include oversight support at active construction remediation projects including related support activities such as perimeter air monitoring, waste disposal coordination (manifest review, tracking of waste shipments), soil and groundwater sampling, and general support to construction managers and engineers as needed.  Additional activities may include support on various projects throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania including soil and groundwater sampling, system operations and maintenance, system sampling, vapor intrusion sampling, engineering control site inspections. 

Job Expectations:

  • On-site remediation construction site support
  • Collecting of groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment and gas samples
  • Water level measurements
  • Field testing and tasks for treatability studies and construction projects
  • Task/project management and client/subcontractor communication
  • Inventory maintenance, repair and calibration of field equipment and supplies
  • Computer data entry of operations data, water level data, laboratory data, waste tracking
  • Providing other technical assistance, as assigned
  • Field visits to assess conditions of engineering controls and associated reporting and maintenance repair tracking.
  • Performing the above described tasks at various client sites including those in Kearny and Jersey City, New Jersey, as needed
  • Willingness and ability to work on your own at the direction and supervision of engineers and scientists

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • One to two years’ experience in related position but willing to accept less experience for a motivated self starter
  • Has a general understanding and level of comfort working with hand and power tools and/or experience working in a trade
  • High school, college level graduate or certification as an associate engineering technician desired but not mandatory
  • Must have a general to advanced understanding of environmental management concepts
  • Must be organized, reliable, able to learn new technical concepts and to work well with others
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Must be willing to travel frequently and to work in a rigorous field setting
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Ability to walk slowly around sites of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs.
  • Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold.
  • Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), etc.
  • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
  • Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 foot typically) to access structures for visual inspection.
  • Ability to lift objects on job sites less than 50 pounds
  • Position requires enrollment in a random drug testing program
