Our Virginia Beach, VA office currently has an opportunity for a self-starting mid-level engineer to join us supporting our Infrastructure Engineering Design Group.  This is a great opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting office.  The successful candidates will work with and be mentored by strong, nationally recognized, senior technical staff.

Job Expectations:

In this role you will work closely with project managers and lead other team members to execute work involving conventional types of civil engineering principals and other related activities for infrastructure projects.  Specific duties may include the following: 

  • Prepare pipeline condition assessments.
  • Lead teams in the design of water replacement or rehabilitation projects.
  • Lead teams in the evaluation of existing service area and develop recommendations for the rehabilitation or replacement of utility assets.
  • Lead teams in the evaluation of existing water and wastewater pumping stations.
  • Lead teams in the design of the rehabilitation or replacement of water and wastewater pumping stations.
  • Lead teams in the design of neighborhood utility rehabilitation projects.
  • Conduct environmental studies, permitting, alternatives analyses, and other technical deliverables.
  • Review the work of others and ensure high quality submittals meeting or exceeding Client expectations.
  • Provide support, guidance, and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications as part of engineering services during construction.
  • Assist with submittal reviews, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders for construction projects.
  • Conduct field work as necessary for various projects.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (drafters, designers, and other engineers).

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional registration or ability to obtain PE in Virginia required.
  • Minimum 8 years’ professional experience in study, design, and construction administration.
  • Study, design and construction administration experience related to water and wastewater pipelines, pumping stations, and other facilities a plus.
  • Project Management experience a plus; Ability to manage projects required.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D preferred, MEP/Revit a plus.
  • Design experience in stormwater treatment and conveyance systems a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Sitting in an office environment for extended periods of time to complete work assignments including typing reports
  • Ability to walk slowly around a construction or field site of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs.
  • Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), etc.
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
