Job Expectations:

The ideal candidate will have project management and technical skills experience in planning and/or designing large engineering projects, with both industrial and municipal wastewater processes and the troubleshooting of those treatment systems. Prior experience with water/wastewater planning, design, permitting, and construction engineering activities is desired.  We are seeking a candidate who has a positive, can-do attitude and will be flexible and self-motivated, well organized, and quality oriented with attention to detail. In this position some travel will be required. This position can be located in our Houston, TX or Nashville, TN office.  

Position Profile

Our Design Services Group is currently seeking a Process Mechanical Wastewater Engineer with an interest and familiarity with mechanical engineering as it pertains to industrial and municipal plant design (equipment, piping and controls) for the water industry (wastewater, potable water and surface water). 

Typical work areas include:

  • Pumping and hydraulics for liquids, slurries, and viscous fluids
  • Open channel flow hydraulics
  • Fluid dynamics and design of air and gas distribution and diffusion systems
  • Compressor selection and design
  • Tank and tank mixing analysis and design
  • Tank, pipe, and structure heat loss
  • Heat exchanger design
  • Equipment system controls – P&ID’s
  • Thermal processing equipment – hot water and steam
  • Piping design and expertise – materials, layout, support, anchorage, expansion control
  • Valving
  • Water industry chemical and disinfection systems

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute work on wastewater and water utilities including treatment plant, pumping station, and bio-system facility planning and design.
  • Perform technical research, and be able to communicate and apply this knowledge.
  • Lead project team in planning and/or designing a major engineering project and coordinate special planning, economic, and engineering studies.
  • Provide consultation in specialized areas related to efficient design management for treatment plant, pumping station, and bio-system facility planning and design. Make decisions and solve problems.
  • Participate in improving company resources and tools to improve design production and efficiency.
  • Prepare and make presentations to clients and for professional meetings
  • Direct the work of drafters and designers, coordinate with other disciplines
  • Supervise, delegate, and oversee the work of entry level technical staff and engineers
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Provide input to project budgets for proposal work

Position Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Civil/Environmental, or Chemical Engineering; M.S. preferred
  • Project management experience desired, but not required
  • 6 + years of professional experience
  • Technical experience should include:  piping design, familiarity with biological process design, design of fluid dynamics and pumping systems, and ability to research equipment and technologies. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations and prepare written reports and documents
