Currently our Salt Lake City office has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Infrastructure Designer to join our Civil Design Team. The successful candidate will work on various projects to support buried infrastructure efforts for local clients and municipal, industrial and federal clients primarily in the Southwest. The successful candidate will work directly with engineers and design staff on 3D, multi-discipline designs for facilities primarily serving the water and wastewater industries utilizing Autodesk software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D and NavisWorks).  Project work includes; development of civil layout drawings of underground utility systems, gravity and pressure pipe design, site works and grading.  This position requires knowledge of gravity and pressure pipeline networks, plan and profile development, volumetric calculations, and design of final grading.  Understanding and development of contract drawings, coordination and interpretation of field investigations, utility research, and support during construction are also important.  The successful candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative, multi-discipline environment to develop innovative, cost effective designs for new facilities, expansions, upgrades and retrofits.

 

Job Expectations:

  • Use Autodesk programs to generate 3D civil models for use by other design disciplines as well as contractors on projects for municipal, private industrial, and federal clients
  • Prepare 3D models and layouts and perform final drafting tasks from general instructions or conceptual information
  • Demonstrate skills with thorough knowledge of procedures, practices, and use of the Autodesk software, including; AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D objects and design
  • Assist in design efforts for municipal projects related to water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines and rehabilitation work. Tasks include design, modeling and design, coordinating workload with engineering staff, and interacting with the design team, subcontractors, utilities, and teaming partners
  • Work within company or client design standards and specifications to prepare drawings in conjunction with other design disciplines

 

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 0-5 years of experience in buried infrastructure, municipal and/or industrial civil design required (level of hire is dependent on relevant experience)
  • Knowledge and understanding of AutoCAD & AutoCAD Civil 3D 2015 software including Civil 3D objects, sheet set manager, and pipe networks specific to gravity and pressure pipeline design, and general knowledge of earthwork and grading required
  • Experience collecting, interpreting and compiling utility research and field data into intelligent Civil 3D models
  • Experience implementing and maintaining project directories and file sharing protocol with subconsultants and clients
  • Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually as part of a plan set, and verbally with a team essential
  • Effective oral and written communication essential
  • Demonstrated ability to use standard computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required
  • Experience with the execution of cloud-based design projects including familiarity with any of the following platforms: Citrix, One Drive, SharePoint, ProjectWise, Vault, and/or Buzzsaw a plus.
  • Microstation and GIS experience a plus
  • Field/construction experience a plus
