Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Estimates manufacturing requirements, capabilities, and capacity
  • Designs fixtures, tooling, and custom applications for in-plant use
  • Develop, verify and maintain Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) programs, using interactive and automated systems that are used for generating products in a timely and cost effective manner to internal and external customer specifications
  • Analyses drawings, sketches and design data of parts to determine dimensions and configurations of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates
  • Support the manufacture of products by providing programming, fixtures, tooling and a process to catalog and retrieve programs quickly and effectively
  • Estimates production times, machine set-up requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and provide technical support to incorporate design of manufacturing improvements
  • Confers with Plant Facility Personnel and Maintenance regarding new equipment and/or the design of specialized equipment used to manufacture Wagstaff products
  • Confers with Production, Purchasing, and Quality Assurance to determine supplier qualifications as well as develop/improve outside processes and services
  • Confer with shop personnel and Technical Support Group on new processes, setups and fixtures
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other production and operations issues
  • Confers with Plant Facility Personnel for analyzing & planning work force utilization, space requirements & workflow, and designs the layout of equipment and workspaces for maximum efficiency
  • Confers with Customer Service to develop quotations for specialty project and new-product development proposals
  • Ensures department compliance with the Wagstaff Quality System
  • Employee is expected to have achieved a level of technical proficiency equivalent to a subject-matter expert, and is capable of training less senior employees and leading project teams.

  • In order to achieve business objectives, work weeks in excess of 40 hours may be required
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Associate of Arts/Science degree in Machining Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology or related technical discipline combined with ten (10) years of relevant experience
  • Generate programs using Solid Works, MasterCam or other types of 3D modeling software
  • Knowledge of manual machining and CNC machining operations
  • Strong working knowledge of drafting and solid modeling technology

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, work is performed primarily in an adequately lit, well ventilated, climate controlled general office environment.  Close computer work is regularly required.  The work usually involves minimal physical exertion.  The noise level in the general office environment is usually moderate. 

This job may require occasional or more frequent interaction with employees on the manufacturing shop floor.  While on the shop floor, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks of moving equipment and parts, and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment.  Because of this environment and associated risks, coordination with shop floor managers/employees may be necessary before entering the shop floor, and use of job appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing is required on the shop floor.  The noise level on the shop floor is often loud.
