Coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services, such as tools, parts, and supplies for company.  Confers with suppliers to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, technology, and delivery schedule that is consistent with getting the highest quality goods and services at the lowest possible cost to the company.  Estimates the values according to knowledge of market price and raw material trends.  Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.  Maintains manual or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and supply agreements.  Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, suppliers, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.  May approve invoices for payment.  May expedite delivery of goods to users to support parts and service requirements.  Studies sales records and inventory levels of current stock, identify foreign and domestic suppliers, and keep abreast of changes affecting both the supply of, and demand for, needed products and materials. 



  • Development and selection of suppliers,  including international sourcing
  • Cost control, change control, and parts and service support for goods and services procured
  • Manage assigned commodities and supply chain strategy
  • Implementation of contracting strategies and contracts for goods or services
  • Responsible for support, implementation, and administration of supply agreements
  • Ensures all contract administration procedures are followed and executed in a professional manner
  • Resolve CSR and STR cases in an expedited manner
  • Perform cost analysis and assess impacts of supplier cost files
  • Assist in purchasing administrative duties (examples, however, not an all-inclusive list below):
    • LN part set-up, PDR creation, and enter approved cost changes
    • LN part updates, PMO/PLM assistance/liaison to OE engineering



  • Knowledge of the automotive type market
  • Ability to accomplish basic financial analysis, supplier selection, and approval
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to perform in high-stress, fast-paced environment
  • Working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications



  • Bachelor degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in purchasing, materials, planning, or similar field



  • Work performed in an office setting
  • Frequent work for more than the standard 40-hour week because of special sales, conferences, or production deadlines
    • Evening and weekend work may be needed
  • Some travel may be required
