Position Summary:
 
LA Voice is seeking a Development Manager to support our efforts to secure more than $2 million dollars annually for the fulfillment of LA Voice’s mission. The Development Manager will play a key role alongside the Development and Operations Director in maintaining, growing and diversifying LA Voice’s funding base for social change. Candidates should be prepared to implement tried and true fundraising strategies as well as modeling and experimenting with innovative approaches. This position reports to the Development and Operations Director, but works closely with all members of the staff, volunteers and the Board of Directors. This is an amazing opportunity for someone who wants to utilize their development skills as a part of a growing organization making real positive, systemic change in Los Angeles.
 
Essential Functions (to include, but not limited to):
 
  • Support efforts to diversify funding sources through identification of new opportunities for funding that align with LA Voice’s work, major donors, earned income, and/or other strategies to raise unrestricted funding
  • Research current and prospective foundations and corporations, and prepare briefing materials to equip staff for meetings with funders
  • Work with our grant writing consultancy to to prepare proposals, reports, email updates, collateral material, and other documents that are compelling and responsive to funder interests. This includes drafting, editing, formatting, and assembling required materials.
  • Create and execute various fundraising campaigns, including events, digital, mailings and publications throughout the year
  • Manage funder and donor data, ensuring our fundraising efforts are well tracked to maximize success
  • Plan and implement donor retention and acknowledgement efforts
  • Plan and manage fundraising events, including our annual fundraiser, #VoiceRaise
  • Implement initiatives to focus on donor acquisition, donor retention and increasing annual donor gifts
 
Qualifications:
 
Required:
  • 2+ years professional experience in development or related field in a nonprofit and/or social-change environment
  • At least two years track record of success with fundraising
  • Track record of strong collaboration with others: able to “manage up” and with peers, and reliably get things done.
  • Strong writing skills, with a strong preference for grant writing experience. Can produce excellent quality writing on short deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to project manage and manage one’s own prioritization and work stream.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Able and willing to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work
  • Cultural competence to support and promote a multi-racial, interfaith environment
 
Preferred:
  • Experience developing online fundraising programs including direct experience with email and digital campaigns
  • Experience with donor management software
  • English fluency required, second language a plus, including Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin, or Vietnamese.
  • Experience with community organizing
  • A bachelor’s degree combined with some form of ongoing education--a Master’s Degree, writing courses, fundraising certificate, e.g.
 
Compensation: 
 
  • Salary is competitive dependent on experience, in a range between $50,000-$65,000.
  • Generous benefits package including matching 401(k), 15 days paid vacation increasing to 20 after 3 years of service (plus holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Years), and full health insurance.
