Faith in Indiana is multi-faith, multi-racial, democratic and non-partisan faith-based community organization with six chapters in Marion, Hamilton, St. Joseph, Allen, Lake, and Elkhart Counties. Our congregation and community members promote racial and economic justice thru intensive leadership development, amplifying the prophetic voice of clergy, and collective action. Justice for Immigrants Campaign is a national effort of the USCCB to educate the public about Church teaching on migration and advocate for dignified and fair immigration and refugee laws that reflect the principles articulated by the bishops. Under the supervision of Catholic Charities, the Immigrant Justice organizer will coordinate the new CARE Program in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. The CARE Program aims to provide accompaniment, solidarity, and raise awareness about current immigration realities and advocate for community change. Faith in Indiana seeks a Community Organizer to lead local, state, and national immigrant justice strategies and to engage grassroots leaders of faith in campaigns to promote racial and economic justice. The Immigrant Justice Organizer will:
 
  • Train congregational leaders to build organizing teams with the power to win policy change
  • Lead regional, state, and national campaigns to protect and expand immigrant rights
  • Coordinate the Catholic Accompaniment and Reflection Experience (CARE) that seeks to accompany, build solidarity, and encounter families threatened by deportation
This position is a partnership of Faith in Indiana and the Justice for Immigrants Campaign of the USCCB.
 

The Immigrant Justice Organizer:

  • Demonstrates a disciplined focus on intentional leadership development through 1-1 conversation, identifying interest, inviting grassroots leaders into roles in the public arena, and leadership training
  • Engage grassroots leaders in collective action for social change thru identifying issues, training leaders, direct action with decision-maker at local, state, and federal level
  • Build intentional relationships with clergy and religious leaders; constructing strategies for congregation development in partnership with Faith in Indiana
  • Create and Implement long-term strategic plans for building state power for racial and economic justice
  • Raise grassroots funds thru individual and congregational donors
  • Build strong relationship with supervisor, willing to develop self-thru feedback and agitation from organizing staff and leaders
  • Strong commitment to racial equity
 
Experience and Qualifications:
 
  • The Ideal applicant will have the following qualifications:
  • 2+ years’ experience building multi-racial teams to take action thru grassroots campaigns in community, labor, political, or other social change movements
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment,
  • Work well collaboratively in team-oriented environment
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and social media platforms
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Must be flexible and able to work in versatile environment, available to work evening and weekends
  • Excellent group facilitation and coaching skills
  • A commitment to Faith in Indiana’s mission of developing grassroots leaders
  • A strong understanding of faith formation and religious education
  • Bilingual verbal and written Spanish/English (required)
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and able to show proof of a valid auto insurance

Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Experience leading and building teams in Latinx communities
  • Experience working with or in the Roman Catholic Context
