Description

Software Engineer V

Omnicell is looking for a skilled Software Engineer V to work closely with SQA Lead Engineers, Agile Product Owners and Scrum teams to drive high-quality product development. This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Mentor and provide technical direction to scrum teams
  • Provide architecture leadership to scrum teams including architecture process, standards and best practices
  • Engage directly in the software development process and make direct contributions to the solutions being developed

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the drivers and requirements of the business and translate those into technology solutions
  • Mentor and coach Software Engineers
  • Design and develop architecture (integrated process, applications, data, infrastructure, and technology) solutions to business problems in alignment with the enterprise architecture and business direction and standards
  • Evaluate and advise on the selection, use and development of technology framework
  • Perform technical planning, architecture direction and standards
  • Recommend key metrics to measure the quality of the code base
  • Manage technical debt backlog and create projects to improve the health of the code base based on area of ownership
  • Recommend improvements to the software delivery cycle to help remove waste and impediments for the team
  • Work within the team to build product deliverables based on overall architecture direction
  • Understand the broader context of the technology vision, considering the overall interaction between components as well as the applicability of the technology within the problem domain
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to select appropriate design solutions to ensure the compatibility of one or more system component
  • Develop proposals related to integrating multiple architecture domains (i.e., process, application, data, infrastructure)
  • Design technical solutions independently, often requiring nonlinear analysis, such as charting decision trees and tracking multiple interdependencies
  • Align business requirements with technology choices across multiple products/projects and advise management about trade-offs that may impact schedules
  • Monitor current and future trends, technology and information that will affect organizational projects
  • Propose recommendations on technology changes
  • Advocate for stakeholders across various business functions (e.g., sales, engineering, marketing), advising on a range of topics from tactical day-to-day issues to broader, strategic technology initiatives

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of Agile development (especially Scrum and/or Kanban) and Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) as it relates to software architecture
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of the following:
    • Long-term trends of the product and how the product can meet the vision
    • Market cadence and how this effects a product
    • Business drivers and processes pertaining to projects undertaken
    • Intellectual property law (e.g., ability to recognize when legal issues might be involved in some endeavor and to seek assistance as appropriate, ability to read and understand technology licenses, contracts, etc.)
    • Software and infrastructure development processes and applicability
    • Industry best practices and process associated with software architecture

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years in software engineering and/or software architecture OR Master’s degree with 8+ years in software engineering and/or software architecture
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
