Senior Manager, Systems Engineering

The Senior Manager Systems Engineer will lead system design functions (systems engineering, electrical design, mechanical design, reliability engineering, Systems Integration & Test) through the entire product development cycle, from early concept definition through release to manufacturing production. Responsible for understanding functional needs from Product Roadmaps and ensuring readiness to execute Accountable for execution of engineering deliverables for abovementioned functions and leading continuous improvement activities for these functions as well as participating in similar activities across all R&D functions.. The candidate will work with all levels within the company and collaborate with Software Engineering, Marketing, Manufacturing, Support, and others. This role requires demonstrated engineering leadership skills, with an ability to resolve technical challenges, including experience as a technical lead for integration and test activities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and manages the activities of a group of Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Integration/Test and Reliability Engineers tasked with the creative development of components, mechanisms, systems and finished products. Recognizes development needs and capability gaps in own area and arranges specific projects/assignments to address needs
  • Analyzes technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess project feasibility
  • Directs technical organization to ensure progress according to technical objectives, within budgetary and schedule guidelines
  • Assesses the results of technical projects under direction. Troubleshoots technical problems causing delays of section tasks and projects, where a high level of technical knowledge and capability may be required
  • Undertakes hardware engineering related projects, applying acquired expertise for bringing in new technical ideas and solutions to complex technical problems in the design of complex systems, subsystems, and components
  • Hands-on involvement in the design and development of mechanical and electrical elements of automation systems
  • Improves processes and procedures. Completes regular project progress reports
  • Some travel required. Varies based on the project and the phase of the project

 

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent oral, written, sketch, and presentation communications skills
  • Provides leadership for operational excellence by continually challenging old methods or ways of thinking and taking responsible risks to maximize results; serves as a role model in innovative thinking and in focusing on quality within work
  • Hands-on involvement in the design and development of mechanical and electrical elements of automation systems
  • Identifies quality and service-oriented customer solutions and shares key learnings
  • Supports Regulatory Affairs to ensure that all standards requirements are met
  • Works closely with the development team including Marketing and approval of specifications required for project design or redesign task
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, motivate and direct technical personnel
  • Proven track record of successfully bringing new products to market while having a track record of sustaining old products
  • Strong skills and hands-on experience with either mechanical design or electrical design.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in designing Automation Machines which are delivered as a product to non-technical end-users
  • 5 years in a leadership role managing a team

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in designing Automation Machines which are delivered as a product to non-technical end-users
  • Experience developing:
  •  Cloud Enabled and Networked System of Systems (comprising of multiple disparate Edge Devices).
  • complex Robotics and Automation systems that have an intensive AI/Machine Learning and software element. Familiarity with data analysis, statistics, and machine learning techniques highly desired.
  • Experience with:
  • regulatory requirements and the approval process: FCC, UL, CE, RoHS, ISO, etc.
  • GMP pharmaceutical machine designs is a plus
  • PLC, ladder logic diagrams, and experience designing hardware to meet UL and CE requirements
  • linkages, cams, gears, power transmission components, (servo, stepper, direct drive) linear motion products, (bearings, rails, etc.) solenoids, robotics, vision systems, color sensing systems
  • pneumatic controls and pneumatic actuator technology background.
  • manufacturing processes, (CNC, Sheet Metal, Welding, Paint / Powder Coating)
  • OSHA, CE and UL Safety Requirements
