Manufacturing Engineer III

Omnicell is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III for our Milpitas, CA location.  This position will develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.  The incumbent will recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls and lead cross-functional teams to design and validate new products as well as lead manufacturing launches for new or revised products.  The Manufacturing Engineer III will also work closely with suppliers to design and implement effective process controls. 


  • Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, project management and employee training.
  • Develops manufacturing processes and packaging solutions by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency.
  • Works closely with suppliers and contract manufacturing partners to analyze new product designs to assess manufacturability and to identify opportunities to reduce cost and improve quality (DFM).
  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and suppliers and evaluating results.
  • Designs, develops and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Provides overall leadership and/or participates as manufacturing lead on cross-functional teams.


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Possess strongly demonstrated Microsoft Office skills (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint).
  • Effectively demonstrated project management skills.
  • Strong problem solver able to lead teams through root cause analysis techniques, e.g. 8D, DMAIC, etc.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or related engineering discipline.
  • Seven plus (7+) years of manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience using CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks, ProE, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Experience with PLM systems (e.g. Agile, Windchill, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Black belt or Lean Six Sigma training and certification
  • Experience in an FDA regulated industry (Class I or II)


Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in both office and manufacturing settings.
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Travel up to 15% including overseas travel including trips of 1-2 weeks duration.
