Mechanical Designer IV


CAD Designer IV

A CAD Designer IV is an important member of the IV Solutions Engineering group. This role interfaces with many levels of the company and may collaborate with mechanical, electrical and software engineering, marketing, manufacturing, quality and purchasing as well as other cross-functional teams.   The CD Designer IV creates and modifies 3D CAD models and 2D drawings from the component level all the way to the most complex of assemblies. Most importantly, the Mechanical Designer IV exhibits the desire and ability to collaborate and excels in teamwork and communications.   


  • Creating and modifying 2D/3D electromechanical designs using models as well as detail, assembly, and layout drawings.
  • Participating in product concept meetings, design reviews, and product release/design transfer process.
  • Working closely with Engineers and other members of cross-functional teams to create mechanical design/documentation packages from ideas, rough sketches, redline drawings and/or notes for new
  • Creates layout drawings for equipment installations at customer sites.
  • Assists Engineers and other members of cross-functional teams with fabricating, assembling, and testing of large-scale electromechanical robotic systems.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing techniques, including plastic and metal machining, turning, sheet metal (press brake), injection molding, RIM molding, investment casting, plastic and metal extrusion.
  • Demonstrated 3D modeling/designing experience with SolidWorks CAD package.
  • Relevant experience working with Engineers and other members of cross-functional teams to develop detailed models and drawings from ideas, rough sketches, redline drawings and notes for new product developments as well as improvements to current products.
  • Experience creating designs that integrate multiple electro-mechanical components (Motors, Solenoids, Actuators, Bearings, Slides, Couplers..) and associated technologies.
  • Experience as lead designer for at least one project.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with various rapid prototyping methods such as  FMD, SLS, SLA, DLMS, rapid machining, urethane casting

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2 year Associates Degree in Mechanical and/or CAD technology
  • 5 years mechanical design experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
  • Knowledge of working in a medical device development environment and familiarity with FDA regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one of fabricating, assembling, troubleshooting or testing automated electromechanical and robotic assemblies.
