As a leader in medication and supply dispensing automation, central pharmacy automation, IV robotics, analytics software, and medication adherence and packaging systems, Omnicell is focused on improving care across the entire healthcare continuum—from the acute care hospital setting, to post-acute skilled nursing and long-term care facilities, to the patient’s home.

Over 4,000 customers worldwide use Omnicell® automation and analytics solutions to increase operational efficiency, reduce medication errors, deliver actionable intelligence and improve patient safety.

Omnicell’s innovative medication adherence solutions, used by over 32,000 institutional and retail pharmacies in North America and the United Kingdom, are designed to improve patient adherence to prescriptions, helping to reduce costly hospital readmissions.

Recent Omnicell acquisitions, including Ateb, add distinct capabilities, particularly in central pharmacy, IV robotics, and pharmacy software, creating the broadest medication management product portfolio in the industry.

Project Implementation Engineer

Project Implementation Engineer

Omnicell specialises in automated stock control systems including electronic cupboards, hand-held top-up scanners and bedside administration solutions.  The Project Implementation Engineer will be responsible for installing, commissioning and reviewing Omnicell solutions in the NHS and private hospitals.

Our solutions improve and support workflows and processes, producing efficiencies and savings.  To implement our equipment successfully, the perfect candidate will ideally have existing knowledge and experience of supply chain coupled with a strong desire to ask questions, learn and understand our customers’ needs, as well as a drive to learn everything there is to know about our products, their full functionality, our technical solutions and the benefits we are delivering.

This is a hands-on role for which you will need to have practical and technical skills. Very important personal qualities will include your ability to think on your feet, being a methodical problem solver and being of mature, confident and polite character.

We prefer to promote from within and a Project Engineer may progress into a Project Manager role in time, with the right training, experience and personal/soft-skills.

We need intelligent and motivated people who will share our vision and passion to succeed in implementing change within the NHS to improve efficiency.

The job involves installing our solutions at sites across the UK, so the suitable applicant will need to be able and willing to travel and to work away from home, mostly during the week. Consequently, there will be some nights away from home.

  • Initial post-live support
  • You will contribute to and learn about project design, project implementation, information gathering and analysis, negotiation techniques, sales, project performance and case study reporting, software systems, systems interfacing as well as all the issues relating to pharmacy and supplies management in hospitals
  • You will also assist in developing operating procedures and best practice models for the implementation and operation of our systems

Full training will be given on our equipment, so no specific product experience in this regard is required, but a good understanding of ward/theatres processes and/or logistics, top-up and replenishment would be beneficial.  Experience of other automation equipment, either within the hospital setting or other sectors could be very useful.  For installation of our pharmacy equipment, knowledge of drug formularies and central pharmacy processes would provide a great head-start.

An enthusiasm for technology, strong IT skills, good people skills and flexibility are essential.

  • Must have evidence of excellent computer skills, particularly in Windows based operating systems (Win7, Win10, Windows Server) and a very strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.  Experience of databases, networks and computer hardware is desirable.
  • Ideally educated to degree level but certainly not essential for this role.  Resourceful intelligence, common sense, persuasion and people skills are more important to delivering our projects than any specific qualifications.  Excellent communications skills and the ability to engage and influence people in a positive way to achieve results.
  • A background in lean manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma or Pharmacy technician experience would be helpful but not essential.
  • Previous experience of MRP/ERP systems, inventory control systems, or specific pharmacy systems such as JAC or Ascribe or pharmacy automation would also be desirable.
