Purchasing Manager

Omnicell has a dynamic opportunity for a Purchasing Manager to join our manufacturing team located in Milpitas, CA.  The Purchasing Manager will report to the Director Global Procurement, Purchasing and will manage purchasing activity for Direct, Indirect and/or NPI materials for the Company.  Responsibilities will include managing a team of local and/or remote Buyers, overall management of our Global Suppliers, Cost Reduction Activities, Contract Negotiations, Supply Chain Management, and support of New Product Introductions.


  • In order to work effectively as the Purchasing Manager, the position is expected to:
  • Execute tactical purchasing operations to support immediate requirements in manufacturing and/or NPI.
  • Set strategic goals and drive individual/team actions accordingly.
  • Multitask, managing day to day issues as well as long-term objectives.
  • Manage and direct Buyers with diverse backgrounds and experience.
  • Responsible for Purchasing management, Inventory management, New Product Introduction management, Supplier management
  • Develop plans and Execute Cost Reductions
  • Project management assistance for outsourcing projects
  • Provide department metrics (monthly/quarterly)
  • Management of Excess and Obsolete Inventory
  • Work effectively and efficiently with other departments (ie Marketing, Engineering, Management, etc)
  • Evaluate and Develop Buyers and their individual career paths

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong SAP knowledge (3-5 years, Materials Module 
  • Strong people management skills
  • Excellent Communication skills (internally and externally).
  • Intimate knowledge of supply base in various regions
  • Ability to estimate material costs and knowledge of purchasing and SAP best practices.
  • Strong supplier management, project management and inventory management skills.
  • Ability to respond quickly to customer issues.
  • Continually drive costs down.

Basic Requirement:

  • BA in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics or Purchasing with 5 years direct procurement experience.  
  • At least 3 years’ experience managing an organization of buyer/planners/issues in a direct-material, MRP driven environment.
  • SAP experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years managing an organization of buyer/planners/issues in a direct-material, MRP driven environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Supply Chain contracts.
  • ISM Certifications
  • Advanced SAP

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment
  • 25% travel, including international
  • Constant deadlines and need to keep manufacturing operating with no parts short
