Pharmacy Technician III


Pharmacy Technician III

The Pharmacy Technician III is responsible for maintaining all unit-dose medications required for daily dispensing from the Omnicell automated IV equipment.  The Pharmacy Technician III will prepare and maintain the Omnicell IV automated equipment for daily use, perform advanced equipment troubleshooting, maintain optimal medication inventory levels, review / maintain reports. The Pharmacy Technician 3 will engage with various levels of customer service by identifying and addressing any customer concerns and report to the Pharmacy Services Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform IV automation tasks in an aseptic, error free manner, consistent with prescribed guidelines.
  • Perform IV automation equipment cleaning and maintenance.
  • Follow Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs procedures when handling medications.
  • Responsible for identifying/ordering medications to ensure medication inventories are at optimal levels.
  • Responsible for monitoring and ordering consumable supplies required for the operation of the equipment.
  • Responsible for performing advanced troubleshooting and prescribed maintenance of IV automation equipment and reporting unresolved equipment issues to the IV HD.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with pharmacy services manager and customer, to ensure proactive, solution-oriented problem identification and resolution.
  • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction by aligning the Pharmacy Services Program to provide customer-focused support emphasizing quality, professionalism and responsiveness, by acting as liaison between OMCL and customer to assist with customer concerns.
  • Comply with IV Compounding procedures, policies and guidelines established by the Customer facility.
  • Complete negative fingertip and media fill sampling.
  • Maintain state and/or national credentialing to meet established guidelines.                                                                                                                                               

Specialized Knowledge/Skills:   

  • Good organizational skills, accurate, reliable and efficient.
  • Demonstrated customer-facing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communications and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with mechanical equipment.
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware, PC Windows.
  • Proficient in the use of PPE and hand hygiene techniques

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current PTCB Certification
  • Current State Board of Pharmacy registration, if required.
  • 2 years of hospital pharmacy automation experience
  • 1 year of IV Compounding experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Troubleshooting Skills with automation devices
  • SME for Pharmacy Services department
  • 3 years of IV Compounding experience
  • Knowledge of safe handling of hazardous medications

Working Conditions:

  • Pharmacy environment.
  • Capable of standing for several hours at a time.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous drugs.
  • Able to lift 25–30 lbs.
