Sr. Cost Accountant

Sr. Cost Accountant 

This individual will help develop and implement cost accounting and inventory cost analysis systems, will interpret results for management and assist in cost reduction efforts.  The cost accountant will participate in studies to improve the operational and financial effectiveness of the business.  Will extract and analyze financial data from various accounting and information systems.  Support business unit and manufacturing groups with cost, manufacturing, and inventory analysis.  Responsibilities include ensuring the accuracy of inventory, setting up and maintaining a standard cost accounting system, analyzing actual costs, preparing month-end reports, and GL reconciliations. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain standard costs in the Syteline system.  Work with manufacturing plant to develop and maintain accurate standard costs
  • Calculate standard labor and overhead rates
  • Analyze purchase price, labor and overhead spending and explain variances to senior management
  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process for department spending
  • Identify manufacturing variances from plan and forecasts, and root causes of obsolete and excess inventory
  • Work with engineers to estimate costs for proposed new products
  • Team with engineering to ensure standard costs database accuracy
  • Prepare journal entries, monthly inventory and variance reports, special reports, research data and interpret reports for managers
  • Monitor inventory cycle counts
  • Participate in gross margin analysis and product line P&L analysis
  • Support audit requests for inventory and costing for the manufacturing site.
  • Maintain accuracy of the COGS section of the Product Line P&L
  • Maintain reporting tools (FRx and Results) and establish new reports on request
  • Review all projects nominated for posting and ensure that all costs are being recognized related to the revenue being posted

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5 years’ experience in a cost accounting environment
  • 3 years’ experience working with automated cost accounting systems
  • Working knowledge of MS Office including Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA and/or CPA
  • SAP or Syteline
