Engineer IV, Reliability

As part of Omnicell’s V&V and Reliability Engineering Team, the Reliability Engineer interfaces with all levels of the company and collaborates with Design Engineering, Quality, Field Service, Software, Marketing, Manufacturing, Supply chain and Purchasing as well as other cross-functional teams to drive the product reliability.  The Reliability Engineer exhibits leadership and manages testing and qualifying of electromechanical systems to meet design requirements and medical industry standards.  The individual is responsible for the reliability of new hardware product designs. 

Responsibilities:

  • Define the overall Reliability Planning and Test strategy for systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Generate and maintain reliability and life cycle models to support hardware design, and hardware validation teams.
  • Develop and execute Evaluation Tests, Engineering Verification Tests (EVT), Design Validation Tests (DVT), and Reliability Tests (RT) for electro-mechanical medical equipment/systems with the assistance of other test engineers, interns, and technicians.
  • Evaluate test results, write test reports, investigate product test failures, analyze performance problems, define root causes, recommend corrective actions, monitor field quality data and associated metrics such as failure rates and MTBF.
  • Conduct failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA) of system level and sub-system level designs.
  • Utilize predictive analytical methods including modeling, historical learning, industry data as well as internal data mining to help define key tests and parameters that should be monitored.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Able to retrieve and aggregate data from multiple systems for reporting and analysis
  • Working knowledge of Excel functions, macros, and pivot tables. Demonstrated ability to work with large data sets using Excel, Python, or R. 
  • Self-starter, capable of working independently as well as building strong cross-functional collaborative relationships.
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented, organized, independent and able to adjust to changing priorities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical and/or Electrical engineering or other Engineering field of study
  • A combined 8 years of reliability and design verification testing of medical, laboratory, military, industrial or consumer electronics equipment.
  • Experience with FMEA process and statistical test methods including Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Experience with automated test systems including data acquisition systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in reliability data analysis such as Weibull or exponential life cycle modeling, statistical tools and processes, root cause analysis.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in root cause analysis.
  • Familiar with analysis techniques such as microscopy, SEM, spectroscopic analysis, and surface analysis.
  • Experience with designing automated and manual test sets for testing electromechanical and robotic assemblies including the integration of off the shelf test equipment.
  • Experience with:
    • AutoCad, ProE, Solid Works.
    • C, C#, LabView, LabWindows
    • RS232, USB, I2C, CPLDs, microcontrollers, etc.
    • Reliasoft Weibull++ and JMP applications.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.  Experience with data analysis techniques that may include
    • Statistical Process Control
    • 5 Whys
    • Fault Tree Analysis
    • Fishbone Model
