Job Duties:

Web Services Librarian 

  1.  Responsible for the implementation of technical specifications, maintenance, monitoring, and issue resolution of the library’s internal and external website related to usability, accessibility, organization, aesthetic, and integration of web services and electronic resources.

  2. Assist in maintaining and supporting services delivered through VBPL’s website using national cataloging and classification standards and focusing on information organization and usability.

  3. Analyze library digital materials to ensure that current, accurate and consistent information is available to web based customers.

  4. Uses independent judgment, insight, and principles of professional library practice to analyze and identify the information needs of web services and virtual library customers. 

  5. Collaboratively create design continuity for the library’s websites in alignment with the library’s brand and strategic goals.

  6. Provide local and worldwide customers with online access to library materials and to facilitate information transfer.

  7. Conduct thorough internal reference interviews to ascertain customer needs in order to provide accurate, timely and audience-appropriate responses, and referring correspondence to other library staff as appropriate.

  8. Establish and execute routine procedures to create a dynamic web environment and to generate and maintain customer engagement.

  9. Prepare statistical reports to monitor use and operation of the Library’s web sites to ensure that pages are functional, content is accurate and timely, and links to other sites are valid.

  10. Participate as a representative of the City’s Page Masters Team.

  11. Participates in and supports activities of all assigned teams in an informed, constructive, and organized manner to ensure accurate communication on the status of the Library’s website and digital initiatives. 

  12. Train staff on Library web applications deployed by web services

  13. Remain current on topics affecting the library profession through reading professional journals, participation in professional organizations or continuing education activities to anticipate and meet customer needs.

  14. Perform other job duties as assigned.

  15. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on current workloads, changing demand for services, and department needs.



Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires a Master's degree in Library Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.

Demonstrated track record of implementing technical specifications, maintenance, monitoring, and issue resolution of internal and external websites. Experience with preparing and analyzing statistical reports design to monitor the use and the operation of the organizations websites. Proven ability to establish and execute routine procedures for creating dynamic web environments that attract, sustain and/or increase customer engagement. Prior experience collaborating creative design continuity for the library's websites in alignment with the library's brand and strategic goals. Strong project management experience.

VRS Contribution:   All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
