Land Survey Technician
This position is in the Public Works Department, Engineering Division and reports to the City Surveyor. It is responsible for oversight, coordination and performance of work related to land surveys and drafting.

High school or GED plus six (6) years experience in surveys or a related field which utilizes the required knowledge, skills and abilities, and associated with such positions as Engineering Technician or Survey Party Supervisor; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk.
Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employees supervisor based on position assigned.

Proficient in AutoCad Civil 3D and Hypack software;
Six years experience in surveying
Experience as a Survey Party Supervisor
Experience and demonstrated knowledge of Algebra, Geometry, & Trigonomety to perform relevant calculations.
Experience reading and comprehending construction plans and plats
Knowledge of basic computer operations
Experience operating land surveying instruments and equipment
