Our Business Intelligence Delivery team is looking for a Business Intelligence Consultant to join our team in Calgary.  This role will provide actionable insurance information and predictive insight with accuracy and integrity in order to enable robust proactive decision making by the Senior Management Team.  Working autonomously while leading medium sized projects and tasks of large complexity and size, as well as, coaching and supporting of other team members, is expected.


What you’re responsible for:

  • Contributing to joint business intelligent initiatives in all companies within The Co-operators Group of Companies.on BI issues.

  • Providing support, training, knowledge transfer, and delivering presentation material related to a technical or business audience with minimal direction and supervision.

  • Analyzing and understanding the various data sources, (source, target, presentation) and extracting data as required for project analysis by using BI tools or programming language (SQL, MicroStrategy).

  • Understanding MicroStrategy schema’s, ETL’s processes and troubleshooting, and using the appropriate validations to ensure the extracted data reconciles, while using sound judgment in determining the reasonableness of results.

  • Detail oriented work that requires a high degree of mental concentration for extended periods of time. 

  • You handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality.

  • You will work on a virtual team or remotely. A high degree of autonomy is required. 

  • You will be subject to a Criminal Record and Consumer History background check as a condition of employment, in the event you are the successful candidate.

To join our team:

  • 7 years of relevant experience with a University Degree in Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent technical experience.

  • Working experience with schema design and development, advanced reporting, cube, and dashboard design and development using a Business Intelligence Tool, with exposure to the use of job-related applications, appliances and programming languages (MicroStrategy, SQL, Netezza) is required.

  • Knowledge of general data warehousing and RDBMS concepts, theory, and technologies, with the ability to understand and read data models.

  • Property and Casualty insurance experience is an asset.
