Data Manager

Location: Flexible location
Type of Vacancy: Full time

TNTP seeks a full-time Data Manager to join the Research & Evaluation department. This position can be based from a home office anywhere in the United States or at TNTP’s office in Brooklyn, NY and is available immediately. Travel up to 20% required.

Who We Are

TNTP is a national nonprofit founded by teachers that believes our nation’s public schools can offer all children an excellent education. Today we’re a diverse team from a wide range of fields, united by a fierce commitment to helping school systems end educational inequality and achieve their goals for students. We work at every level of the public education system to attract and train talented teachers and school leaders, ensure rigorous and engaging classrooms, and create environments that prioritize great teaching and accelerate student learning.

Staff on TNTP's Client Team work alongside teachers, school leaders, districts and states to help them achieve their goals for students.

What You’ll Do

TNTP collects and reports on a lot of data of all kinds: rosters, surveys, observations, and more. The Data Manager oversees the data collection and reporting processes on which so much of our work depends.  Our teams couldn’t make data-driven decisions without you. The Data Manager will manage data operations to ensure high quality data collection, accurate descriptive analysis, and reporting across a variety of TNTP projects and contracts to allow teams to make data-driven decisions.

A Data Manager’s day-to-day work changes over time based on the stage of each engagement, the differences between projects, and the needs of the team. There’s not a single typical “day in the life,” which keeps things fresh and provides opportunities to learn at every turn. Here are some examples of what the Data Manager will do:

  • Execute data entry and data tracking across multiple project sites, including building customized data tracking tools and reports as requested by project teams.
  • Collect, clean and merge data from states and districts to support cross-project research.
  • Design, launch, market and manage surveys of stakeholder groups (including teachers, administrators, students, district staff and community members).
  • Coordinate logistics and program resources for TNTP’s external evaluation partners, ensuring smooth communication and knowledge sharing.
  • Serve as the central point of contact between district and research study participants, part-time research field staff, and TNTP staff.
  • Produce compelling messages using descriptive data to drive program decision making.

What You Bring

We are looking for amazing people who have diverse backgrounds and experiences, are inspired by our mission and are highly motivated to change children’s lives through education. You’ll be right at home here if you learn from failure and overcome adversity, cultivate strong relationships, and push yourself, your work and the people around you to the next level.

We expect the Data Manager to:

  • Embrace a fast-moving organization. Deadlines, changing priorities and new projects don’t overwhelm you. Instead, they inspire you to rise to the occasion.
  • Love organizing data. Large, messy data sets are no match for your operational skills. You know how to prioritize and simplify complex information, bringing order to chaos.
  • Superlative attention to operational details. Your planning will be the backbone of an efficient and productive team. The team will look to you to establish systems, develop project plans, and support implementation, including navigating our clients’ research and evaluation offices.
  • Deliver crisp, clean messages. Whether in writing or on the phone, your communications are articulate and concise. You understand your audience and know how to deliver inspiring messages and tough news with ease and tactful finesse.
  • Partner with education leaders. You’ll regularly interact with clients, building strong relationships and providing a high level of support.

  • Strong program or research project management experience with extraordinary attention to detail and professionalism, and the ability to organize, plan, and execute multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to adapt to challenges quickly, proposing and implementing thoughtful solutions
  • Demonstrated success with descriptive data analysis and reporting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or G Suite programs and tools
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to collaborate, attain and grow effective partnerships to meet common goals
  • Flexibility and comfort with ambiguity
  • Experience using common data collection and visualization tools such as Survey Monkey, QuestionPro, Tableau, or Formidable
  • Experience using statistical programs such as SPSS, R or Stata to clean, restructure, and merge data files (preferred)
  • Experience working in high-need schools or with high-needs populations (preferred)
