Project Objective: 

Social Impact has been asked to conduct a Democracy, Human Rights and Governance (DRG) assessment for USAID/Nigeria. This will be an assessment of the macro political economy in Nigeria in order to identify the primary challenges to, and opportunities for, democratization in Nigeria.  The team is also tasked with developing strategic and programmatic recommendations to address the core challenges to democratic development, the protection of human rights, and good governance in Nigeria.

The scope of work will involve (1) an analysis of the country context and political direction of the country, including identifying relevant fragility dynamics to identify key DRG problems. (2) Examine the role of key actors and the institutions in which they operate and then identify opportunities (or lack thereof) for them to address key DRG problems. (3) Review U.S. and USAID interests and priorities in Nigeria, including relevant assistance programs, resources, and comparative strengths. (4) Develop recommendations for strategy development and illustrative programming, which will serve as inputs to the development of the Mission new CDCS. 

The estimated LOE for this project is 22.5 days, with a period of performance from October 2019 through December 2019 with fieldwork in mid-November 2019. 


Position Description:

SI is seeking an In-Country Logistician to support the Nigeria DRG Assessment by liaising with key stakeholders in Nigeria, coordinating fieldwork logistics, assisting the members of the Assessment Team (AT) in communication and task completion.

Beginning in October 2019, the Logistician will provide a few days of part-time support to the design phase of the assessment, including contacting potential respondents and providing feedback on the preliminary fieldwork schedule and logistics.

For fieldwork, which will last for approximately three weeks, the Logistician will support preparations for data collection by scheduling interviews, calling key stakeholders, and coordinating logistics surrounding ground and air transportation, maintain a detailed fieldwork schedule. This work is anticipated to take 22.5 non-consecutive days of LOE but is subject to change depending on the fieldwork schedule. The Logistician will be expected to support the assessment team through project start-up in October through the end of fieldwork in early December. This assignment will take place in and around Abuja, Nigeria.

  • Advise the AT on local context relevant to the assessment goals, including the feasibility of the proposed fieldwork schedule;
  • Make, coordinate and confirm appointments for meetings, interviews, focus group discussions, etc. for the ET;
  • Maintain and update the meeting schedule;
  • Make logistical arrangements as needed for in-country hotel accommodations, ground transportation, focus group discussions, etc.;
  • Carry out other tasks as requested.


  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • 3+ years of experience handling data collection logistics (setting up KIIs, tracking completions, locating participants, identifying and setting up locations for KIIs and FGDs, etc.), is preferred;
  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills (e.g. arranging flight/hotel reservations, meeting schedules, transportation, and purchasing supplies);
  • USAID experience a plus.
