Purchasing Manager

Role Summary The Purchasing Manager will support operations and financial services with oversight of costs as well as clearly define approved purchasing strategies for the enterprise.  Additionally, the Purchasing Manager will analyze our current buying systems and create the best methods for day-to-day purchasing operations. This person will be responsible for overseeing our purchasing department, establishing buyer goals based on corporate needs for the coming year and setting career objectives for each member of the purchasing team.


  • Establish and implement purchasing policies, procedures and best practices
  • Monitor ongoing compliance with purchasing policies and procedures
  • Manage vendor and supplier selection process based on price, quality, support, capacity and reliability
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers and vendors
  • Establish and update an approved vendor/supplier database
  • Develop, negotiate and administer purchasing agreements and contracts with suppliers in support of organizational requirements
  • Measure and manage the vendor and supplier cost, quality and delivery performance
  • Oversee supplier compliance with internal quality standards and external regulations
  • Troubleshoot cost, quality and delivery concerns
  • Manage risk relating to quality, cost, delivery and supply of purchases
  • Introduce performance improvement measures for suppliers and vendors
  • Work with relevant departments to manage inventory requirements
  • Direct procurement policies to ensure all items are purchased and delivered within budget and time constraints
  • Oversee bidding of annual unit cost initiatives and provide Operations Department with cost transparency for invoice approval
  • Manage procurement of in-house commodity and supplies inventory and storage
  • Negotiates for best terms with respect to price breaks, lead time, payment terms, resolving problems, etc. Evaluates competitive quotes in these areas.

Required Experience: 3-5+ years related purchasing or costing experience, thorough understanding of multiple purchasing and negotiation methods and best practices, strong computer skills and experience with MS Office, especially Excel, creative problem solving and critical thinking skills paired with a bias for action, working knowledge of project management principles and practices, working knowledge of laws and regulations related to procurement and contracts, financial acumen, attention to detail and willingness to learn.

College degree is highly preferred
