CARE USA has taken on an ambitious transformational agenda, and we need great talent to support us! The Director of Strategy and Planning will be responsible for asking the big questions (e.g., What is CARE's value proposition in a changing international development ecosystem? What would it take to shift North/South power dynamics in how we structure our teams and our work? How do we continue to mobilize support through changing aid budgets and donor preferences?) and conduct analysis to ground our answers in data and drive fact-based decision making. Along with the Strategy team, the Director of Strategy and Planning will support design and execution of our strategic planning cycle (~every 5 years with mid-point reviews) and annual planning process, ensuring goals are clear and measurable, and plans are integrated across departments, countries, and regions. Helps track progress to facilitate continuous improvement and accountability. This role will work with our change communications team to ensure the organization is inspired by, understands and can fully live out our strategy.
The Director will work with the Chief of Staff and Strategy to support executive and board-level discussions and decision making. They will support the Board Strategy Committee and act as a thought partner to the Global Management Team in structuring agendas, documents, and presentations to ensure board-ready quality.
Creative problem-solving and problem structuring, quantitative analysis, strategic acumen, ability to communicate complex ideas in simple ways, strong work planning and project management, comfort with ambiguity, relationship-building and influencing skills, executive presence, and a bias toward action are important for success in this role. A sense of humor and an unbending focus on the people we support is also desired.
