Description

At CARE, we seek a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and people live with dignity and security.

This has been our vision since 1945  when we were founded to send lifesaving CARE Packages® to survivors of World War II. Today, CARE is a global leader in the movement to eradicate poverty. In 2015, CARE worked in 95 countries and reached 65 million people with an incredible range of life-saving programs. We also put women and girls at the center of our work because we know that we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities. We seek dynamic, innovative thinkers to further our mission. If you share our core beliefs: poverty is an injustice; poverty is solvable; and together, we have the power to end it, join us.

CARE is seeking an Advocacy Social Media Coordinator who will plays a critical part of the CARE USA Policy & Advocacy Department (PAD), whose role is to galvanize the social and political will needed to influence USG policymakers to adopt and fully implement policies that support the efforts of poor and marginalized people in the developing world to realize their rights and improve their lives.

This position will contribute to the overall digital advocacy strategy to build a large, highly engaged online audience that takes regular action and moves into offline advocacy; cultivate a new generation of CARE supporters who are politically savvy and passionate about CARE Action’s mission of ending global poverty through effective advocacy; and connect and engage with broader U.S.-based movements that are working toward social justice globally.

The Advocacy Social Media Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of an advocacy social media plan, including the creation and distribution of social media content as part of broader campaigns on our priority issues of food and nutrition security, sexual and reproductive health, women’s economic empowerment and humanitarian emergencies – all viewed through a lens of gender and women’s empowerment.

The incumbent will report to the Senior Director of Citizen Advocacy and work in cooperation with the Online Advocacy Coordinator, the CARE Action team, the Social Movements Advisor, and the rest of the PAD team to build an online grassroots movement through the continued building of CARE Action’s social media presence.
