Charged with delivering legal solutions to all departments and entities within this global company, the AtriCure legal group is busy and dynamic, handling myriad tasks including but not limited to transactional work, litigation and strategic development.   This position will support AtriCure’s Corporate Counsel who is responsible for managing and expanding the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including both patents and trademarks, as well as serve as a back-up to the Corporate Paralegal.  The ideal candidate must be able to work independently while exhibiting initiative, a service-oriented attitude, excellent attention to detail, and project management skills.  Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the ability to interact with a variety of different departments and level of personnel both within and outside the company.




  • Experience with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and international patent offices as well as the respective patent information retrieval systems
  • Familiarity with filing requirements for the US, PCT, and foreign applications
  • Knowledge of patent docketing software
  • Coordination of docketing activities with outside counsel for AtriCure patents and trademarks
  • Experience with IDS reporting and maintenance of IDS relationships for global patent portfolios
  • Provide support to the Corporate Counsel, including scheduling meetings, managing project timelines, and assisting with project management
  • Obtain and maintain database of invention disclosures for products and concepts in development
  • Review, draft, and manage licensing agreements
  • Familiarity with Legal Tracker as well as work with Corporate Paralegal and outside IP counsel to properly establish and enter matters into Legal Tracker
  • Review internal and external materials for proper trademark usage
  • Ability to travel 5%

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification
  • General understanding of healthcare, life sciences, biotech and /or biomedical patents
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a corporate legal department
  • Attention to detail
  • Problem-solving / trouble-shooting skills
  • Must be confident, goal-oriented, self-motivated and a team player with a service-focused mindset
  • Computer proficient with experience with Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Independent worker with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges
