The Position

Vital Strategies is seeking a seasoned Senior Procurement Manager to become part of its growing global team. Based in New York City and reporting to the Director of Administration, s/he will have direct responsibility for negotiating vendor contracts to achieve maximum value, streamlining procurement policies and procedures, overseeing compliance, training staff, and managing office space.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated negotiation skills in procurement, a customer service perspective, and the ability to work with diverse individuals. A minimum of eight years' relevant work experience is required. Experience negotiating large vendor contracts and working internationally is highly desirable.

In the first year, the incumbent will be expected to review and negotiate maximum value contracts in travel, hotels, IT, and telecommunications to meet Vital Strategies needs. S/he will ensure that the vendors provide high quality service at competitive pricing and directly manage key central vendors such as the global travel management company. S/he will also be expected to refine and codify organizational procurement policies and training. The incumbent will be tasked with providing support to divisions and country offices as it relates to procurement and vendor management.

Travel between the U.S. and other Vital Strategies locations may be mutually agreed.

Qualities and Qualifications

  • 8+ years' of direct experience in procurement and contract negotiation
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively both orally and in writing, and deliver presentations, training, and facilitate meetings effectively
  • Flexibility, good judgment, and ability to work under pressure
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to solve complex problems
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant business field preferred
  • MCIPS accreditation, CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management, through ISM), or similar professional qualification desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID procurement procedures preferred.
  • Foreign language fluency (Spanish, Portuguese, or Mandarin) preferred
