Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) is a global health initiative of Vital Strategies that aims to save millions of lives by reducing preventable deaths from cardiovascular disease and to prevent infectious disease epidemics. Since 2017, RTSL has worked closely with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), State governments, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and the World Health Organization (WHO) to implement a core package of interventions to reduce cardiovascular disease. These interventions are: hypertension screening and treatment; the elimination of trans fat from foods; and the reduction of sodium consumption.
Vital Strategies / Resolve to Save Lives is seeking a Delhi-based, short-term Communications Consultant to support our work on cardiovascular health in India. The Consultant is expected to work from home yet attend meetings in the Vital Strategies offices in Gurgaon as well as meetings with program partners. This is a six-month consultancy, reporting to the Vital Strategies / India Communications Manager and collaborating closely with the RTSL Deputy Lead, India and the RTSL Communications Director, New York. The consultant would take on a variety of tasks such as coordinating specific campaigns, drafting communications materials, tracking progress on specific communications projects, supporting earned and social media efforts, and helping to see through advocacy and strategic communications plans.
Key tasks and deliverables:
RTSL India coordination for a behavior change campaign about hypertension (national level and eventually state level planning and execution)
Coordinate RTSL partner awareness, input, and ultimately amplification activities (partners include ICMR, WHO, MoH)
Attend high level meetings with MoH to present campaign objectives and explain how they support RTSL’s hypertension goals in India
Provide feedback on campaign messages to ensure they are technically accurate, locally appropriate, and supportive of messages needed in clinical practice
Liaise with RTSL India, RTSL New York and the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) on the hypertension advocacy campaign in two States and at the National level
Liaise with GHAI, FSSAI, RTSL India and RTSL New York on the trans fat national advocacy campaign
Support GHAI’s earned media efforts by meeting regularly to discuss program updates, upcoming milestones and story ideas and developing story briefs
In coordination with RTSL New York, develop first drafts of communications materials for different components of our India work: hypertension control, private sector engagement, Simple android application, etc, to be used internally or externally
In coordination with RTSL New York, support our India initiative’s branded materials and resources such as a website, designed report templates, social media campaigns
In coordination with our Policy Advocacy & Communications (PAC) team in India, PAC New York and RTSL New York, determine strategy and execution of KAB studies about hypertension, sodium and trans fat as well channel analysis for message distribution
Coordinate requests from the States for communications materials for the hypertension program
Track scientific article development in RTSL India, report out to RTSL New York communications team
Support RTSL India with data visualization and infographics and coordinate with the design team on India-specific materials
Maintain database of photos
Maintain calendar of events for communications efforts
Strong writing skills with sample blogs, OpEds and short essays
3-5 years’ experience in communications required
Background in health or biological sciences strongly preferred
Excellent communicator, both written and oral
Outstanding computer skills with experience in all Microsoft Office programs
Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign preferred
Proficiency in HTML and CSS is a plus
Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and with others
