Vital Strategies is seeking a qualified candidate to work with the Epidemic Intelligence Unit for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic response. The Data visualization specialist will support the Situational Awareness team in identify key datasets applicable to analyze on Public Health and Social Measures (PHSMs) and providing data visualization support to the team.
The position will be based remotely, full-time for a period of 3 months, with possibility of extension determined by the length of the response.
Scope of work
Work with the team to create, collate and clean large databases, including data from primary and secondary sources.
Visualize analysis in dashboards and static information products for policy makers and emergency responders
Help interpret the relationship between multiple data streams for analysis and operational recommendations
Work as the intermediary between subject matter experts in the NPI unit and the data analytics team within Situational Awareness to ensure data is being updated regularly.
Liaise directly with data collection companies to ensure efficient collection and analyses processes
Qualities and Qualifications
Post-graduate degree in data visualization or data science, with a background in infectious diseases and/or public health and/or emergency response
Extensive experience in data visualizations, primarily Tableau. Experience in R is also desirable.
Humanitarian field experience in essential, ideally in Africa.
Ability to be flexible as the response and incident management structure progresses
