We are seeking a Technical Research Writer with particular expertise and experience in scientific writing. Reporting to the Vice President, Global Policy and Research in the Policy, Advocacy and Communication Division, the Technical Research Writer will be responsible for supporting research and evaluation activities for the PAC division of Vital Strategies.
Support ongoing research and evaluation projects globally, in particular by reviewing all research products to ensure that they meet academic and internal writing standards.
Conduct literature reviews and desk research, produce summary reports.
Conduct and collaborate with other researchers on data analysis.
Lead or participate in the production of a variety of research writings for public release, most of it based on primary research conducted by the organization. These may research briefs, case studies, technical reports, peer-reviewed papers.
Manage the submission of peer-reviewed papers and related communication.
Serve as (co)author, as appropriate.
Help draft and/or review abstracts and presentations for conferences, technical consultations and other forums.
Build and help manage reference libraries.
Help maintain quantitative and qualitative datasets for ongoing projects and papers, including ensuring compliance with privacy and ethical standards
PhD in the social sciences, with strong quantitative skills, and 3-5 years of experience. Candidates who do not possess a PhD, but have a Master’s degree in a relevant field and significant experience in writing may also apply
Demonstrated ability to write for a range of audiences from scientists, to policy-makers and mass media
Track record of publishing is required
Knowledge of statistics and quantitative research methods required
Strong interest in public health
Must be detail-oriented, highly organized and efficient
Ability to multitask is important
Demonstrated verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Strong initiative: self-starter with good follow through
Resourceful, willing to learn on the job
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, self-directed, strong work ethic and adherence to deadlines
This position will be primarily remote. We are ideally looking for candidates from the New York Tri-State area, who will work with the team at our New York City HQ, or candidates based in India, who will work with our team in New Delhi. Candidates from either region will be considered.
