Vital Strategies (Vital), based in New York City, is an international public health organization. We develop and oversee programs to strengthen public health systems and address leading causes of morbidity and mortality, providing expertise in project implementation and management, strategic communications, epidemiology and surveillance, and other core public health capacities. Our specific programs include road safety, obesity prevention, tobacco control, and activities to strengthen public health data systems and the use of public health data to guide policy and decision-making. Vital Strategies is seeking to hire a consultant to assist its financial team with the development of financial reports and dashboards using NetSuite and Power BI. This is a part-time consulting role (3 days a week) that will last for a four-month contract period, with the possibility of renewal (if necessary). The consultant is expected to come into Vital’s main office in New York and work with members of the finance team, one-on-one and in a group setting.  

Deliverables

Data Management

  • Support development of use case(s) (gather requirements from users)
  • Analyze existing data sources and data flow
  • Define data structure to achieve intended uses
  • Develop data model for ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Load) process of selected data sources
  • Connect data model with visualization tool

For Power BI Visualization

  • Knowledge on conceptual and logical database models
  • Experience with Power BI, DAX functions and Power Query
  • Experience with SharePoint libraries
  • Familiar with data visualization techniques and software

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop dashboards, financial reports and analytical tools using NetSuite and Power BI
  • Meet with members of program teams and finance team to understand what data and information each programmatic division needs; assist with data visualization and analysis
  • Train members of Vital’s finance team on how to use newly develop tools and systems

Consultant background must include:

  • Minimum of five years of programming experience
  • Knowledge of Power BI required
  • Knowledge of NetSuite preferred
  • Experience with data management and data visualization
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Background in finance preferred
  • Experience in teaching/training related to data/programming/financial reporting
