Vital Strategies is looking for a Social Media Associate to expose how the tobacco industry is undermining public health around the world. The Social Media Associate will be dedicated to Vital Strategies’ work with STOP (Stopping Tobacco Organizations and Products), a global industry watchdog.

STOP exposes the tobacco industry’s unethical business practices, attempts to undermine tobacco control, work to derail policy, and efforts to hook a new generation of smokers. STOP is a three-year partnership that includes robust monitoring, research, reporting and communication.

Funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, STOP is comprised of four constituent partners, each offering a unique set of capabilities to the initiative. Vital Strategies’ role within the partnership is to ensure that the watchdog’s research and activities are widely disseminated and used by stakeholders such as journalists, national policymakers and the global tobacco control community.

The Social Media Associate will be dedicated to STOP’s social media feeds. Reporting to the Content Strategist, he/she/they will plan social media content that aligns with STOP campaigns, and execute engagement strategies on a day-to-day basis based on breaking news or industry activity. The Social Media Associate will also analyze social media analytics, develop reports and provide recommendations to improve engagement on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube platforms.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Create engaging social media posts including copy, visuals and links for planned announcements and to promote STOP content and resources
  • Execute a planned calendar of posts across social media platforms
  • Analyze social media performance and make recommendations for improved engagement
  • Research preferences of target audience
  • Ensure campaign messaging is integrated into social media campaigns
  • Develop social media toolkits for external stakeholders
  • Coordinate social media amplification among partners and stakeholders
  • Report on social media metrics
  • Collaborate with domain experts and communication team to ensure accuracy, consistent messaging and brand voice
  • Oversee the layout of all social media accounts
  • Research trends in social media to keep broader team informed about best practices
  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual reports regarding campaign progress
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing social media platforms
  • Demonstrated experience growing social media audiences and increasing engagement
  • Experience in using social analytics to improve engagement
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Marketing, English or related discipline

Desired Skills

  • Fluency using social media planning tools such as Sprout Social or HootSuite
  • Experience in international settings, ideally in low and middle-income countries
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across time zones and platforms
  • Ability to work fast, meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills
  • Extremely well-organized
  • Attentive to details
  • Absolute mastery of written and spoken English; fluency in another foreign language a plus
  • Diplomacy
