The Position

Vital Strategies is looking for a Digital Strategist to grow Vital Strategies’ audiences and the impact of its health campaigns, with a particular focus on our work to combat the opioid epidemic. The position will involve content creation along with campaign management and evaluation.

The Digital Strategist will have a keen eye for creating, editing and repurposing content, and a knack for looking at leading trends and drawing upon our array of assets and experts to assert Vital Strategies’ point of view. Applicants with experience directing, creating and editing video content are highly desired. The successful candidate will be embedded within a robust team of communications professionals and be a consummate team player, bringing strategic thinking, creativity and good humor to the table.

This is a full-time position based in New York City. Applicants must possess a valid working permit to work in New York. Reporting to the Associate Director, Digital Strategy, the successful applicant must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, think creatively and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Specific Duties

  • Develop content for our digital channels including social media, email and our websites
  • Advance our overdose prevention campaigns in three cities and two states
  • Assist in development of social media strategy and creative concepts
  • Create a content calendar and post / promote social media content. Monitor content performance and engagement
  • Create metrics reports for social media performance and website analytics
  • Support key campaign announcements, launches and events
  • Provide support to our in-country campaigns and staff, as required

Qualifications and Skill Set

  • Degree in Communications or Journalism
  • 6+ years experience digital/social media 
  • Experience across social media platforms (Facebook, Ads Manager, Twitter, Instagram), content creation tools (Canva, Photoshop, video platforms), social and website analytics, email clients (Mailchimp) and backend website (WordPress)
  • Experience with creating engaging digital content across multiple social media platforms and experience with creating social media video content
  • Excellent understanding of social media landscape and ability to learn quickly about the latest platform changes and updates
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work fast, meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
