This is a full-time position based in New York. Applicants must possess a valid working permit to work in the United States.

The Position

Vital Strategies is seeking a Director of Human Resources:Talent Acquisition and Management. This newly created position will be joining the organization at a time of continued growth and global expansion. The successful candidate will have international human resources experience preferably in the development sector. This position will play a key role in building a global talent center of excellence with key areas of responsibility being: talent acquisition, onboarding, talent assessment and development, performance management, and offboarding. This is an exciting time at Vital Strategies and our ideal candidate is a motivated, hands-on HR professional who has the experience and drive to help us build and support our workforce for the future. A team of two will be reporting to this position.


Key Responsibilities

Global Talent Acquisition

  • Drive both short-term and long-term talent resource planning including recruiting capacity planning to ensure adequate resource allocation to support the programs
  • Collaborate with leaders across the organization to understand divisional hiring needs and manage the development of a global workforce strategy
  • Design, implement and leverage talent acquisition strategies and best practices to enhance Vital’s process to attract a diverse pipeline of high-quality talent including interview guides, interviewer training, candidate assessment, referral practices etc. As a strategic thought partner and trusted advisor, this role will ensure high quality service in helping leaders across the organization grow and scale their teams
  • Optimize recruitment processes and systems from intake to offer ensuring a  robust and efficient hiring process that is fair and unbiased
  • In partnership with Communications, develop and deploy a compelling employment brand proposition
  • Provide interviewing and selection skills training to global hiring managers; as well as clarity on the recruitment process and policies
  • Partner with the HR team to ensure that recruitment processes positively impact employee engagement and promote a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Define a best-in-class candidate experience and refine the systems, tools and training to scale that experience globally. In particular, work with hiring managers to ensure the Applicant Tracking System is deployed in a capacity that meets their needs
  • Determine recruitment KPIs, measure results, and assess progress against goals and objectives


Global Talent Management

  • Enhance the full employee life cycle experience for the global organization including: augmenting global on-boarding policies and practices to ensure successful assimilation, developing a strategy for employee engagement, and establishing a culture that fosters learning and supports career development
  • Enable employees’ high performance and professional growth through the design and implementation of a talent management plan that details development practices, experiences and programs for individuals and teams; as well as, provides support to leadership and managers in communicating and facilitating staff career development linked to the organization’s mission and objectives
  • Consult on and facilitate organization development projects. Manage successful execution of initiatives across the global organization in a way that is high-impact, relevant, and meaningful. Develop criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities and regularly monitor and reports results to management, along with recommendations for improvement as appropriate
  • Champion staff talent advancement through succession planning, promotions, and lateral movement within Vital Strategies
  • Develop a robust performance management strategy tied to quantitative and qualitative organizational goals. Create systems to ensure that supervisors provide meaningful and actionable evaluations including opportunities for professional growth
  • Serve as an internal consultant on performance, talent and organization development projects. Conduct needs assessments, organization listening and provide diagnostic perspective and recommendations


Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in human resources with at least three years involved in talent acquisition; minimum five years in a managerial role; and minimum of two years international experience
  • Demonstrated ability to straddle between strategic thinking and operational excellence with a focus on quality and execution
  • Adaptable to changing requirements with a bility to execute and deliver against demanding and dynamic stakeholder requirements
  • High level of cultural awareness and intercultural competency
  • Excellent  verbal, written, listening communication skills with experience in group presentations
  • Exceptional discretion, judgment and critical thinking
  • Strong organizational skills and a high level of detail orientation with proven project management capabilities including experience handling multiple key projects at a time
  • Strong client-service orientation and relationship-building skills; comfort working with various types of people in different contexts
  • External vendor management experience, to include negotiating skills
  • Working knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems is a high priority; Taleo preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, office 365 as well as e-collaborative platforms
  • PHR, SPHR or GPHR certification preferred
