The Store Manager will be responsible for the oversight of all aspects of daily operations as well as providing the leadership, vision, and innovation that will further Powell’s as a world-class leader in retail.
They will inspire a culture of exceptional customer service and will ensure our customer-first mission is present in all aspects of operations. This is a working management position that will develop and champion the talented team of leaders within the store to respond quickly to changing needs and step up to new challenges.

The Store Manager will maintain a deep understanding of the downtown area retail landscape and leverage our brand to build relationships within our community and beyond.

The Store Manager is responsible for all aspects of running the company’s flagship store to ensure it remains a world class bookstore. This includes developing and maintaining a strategic vision for the store that inspires a culture of exceptional customer service and continuous improvement. They maintain an active and deep understanding of the downtown retail landscape, as relates to its effect on the store. Also acquires an active knowledge of the overall retail world and the independent bookselling industry, so as to stay abreast of changes, anticipate trends and identify solutions that sustain the store’s position as a foremost leader in bookselling and iconic destination for visitors to Oregon. The Store Manager maintains a profitable operation, sustains strong sales and develops new avenues for growth- with a focus on profit and loss, large scale inventory management and logistics, cost controls and brand stewardship. They manage a team of managers who carry out the day to day operations of the location. The Store Manager is responsible for developing, challenging, championing and sustaining leaders within the store who are capable of implementing the store’s mission and goals, and enabling the store management team and staff to successfully step up to challenges as they arise and respond quickly to changing needs. Works under broad established parameters and has wide latitude in decision-making authority. Implements and furthers the Company's overall vision. Takes risks and creates a stimulating work environment. Works closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to obtain approval for the store’s operating budget, goals and objectives, and significant business decisions prior to implementation. This is a working management position as the Store Manager continues to perform and supervise duties in functional areas of the store as needed. Reports to the COO.
