Title: Research Associate, Conjugation Chemistry

OPKO Diagnostics LLC is a division of OPKO Health, Inc., a publicly traded healthcare company involved in the discovery, development, and commercialization of proprietary pharmaceutical products, diagnostic technologies, medical devices, and vaccines. OPKO Diagnostics is based in Woburn, Massachusetts, where we are develop assays for a Point-of-Care diagnostic test system for use in physician offices (Claros analyzer and Sangia assays), and proprietary diagnostics tests for our internal CLIA laboratories (4Kscore).

OPKO Diagnostics is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry and/or prior hands-on experience in bioconjugation and purification to join our research group in Woburn, Massachusetts. As a member of the R&D group, you will be working closely with in-house expert in conjugation chemistry and contribute to the development of innovative diagnostics tests on the Claros Analyzer platform. The position offers exciting opportunities for professional growth, including contributing to the entire development cycle of Sangia Immunoassays, from the bench to clinical trials, regulatory approval, and market launch.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Plan, perform and document protein modification and bioconjugation experiments
  • Prepare, purify (e.g. HPLC, continuous gel electrophoresis) and analyze (Native and SDS PAGE) protein  and antibody conjugates
  • Synthesize and purify gold nanoparticles
  • Conduct experiments to improve efficiency and scalability of conjugates to support routine manufacturing
  • Collect and record experimental results accurately
  • Analyze and interpret data, present and document results
  • Write standard operating procedures that comply with internal and regulatory agency standards
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple work flows while meeting expected deadlines
  • Adapt quickly to changing circumstances and project priorities
  • Team player that can communicate in a proactive and solution-focused manner

 

Educational Experience/Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry with a  good knowledge of protein biochemistry and bioconjugation chemistry
  • Laboratory experience in conjugation, analytical and purification techniques, preferably in an industry setting
  • Basic knowledge of HPLC, gel electrophoresis and spectroscopy is required
  • Production and purification of labeled antibodies, proteins and modifications
  • Excellent organizational skills along with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience in protein chemistry and HPLC preferred
  • Must be a motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • 1-2 years of experience; working under design control is a plus
