Washington County, located in West Bend Wisconsin has an excellent opportunity as a full-time Building and Grounds Manager.  Under the general direction of the Central Services Director, the Building and Grounds Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operation and maintenance of the County’s facilities division and grounds division.  

Washington County is seeking a high-energy, collaborative individual to provide leadership to the County’s facilities, custodial, fleet management, grounds and trail operation.  This position seeks to create a Building and Grounds Division from the County’s existing Facilities and Parks Divisions. This dynamic position is responsible for the building and grounds division comprised of roughly 40 full-time and part-time employees. The position also plays an important role in planning for current and future needs and operations and is responsible for ensuring projects conform to the County’s purchasing code.

Washington County facilities are composed of 15 sites including the County jail, Fair Park and University of Wisconsin – Washington County totaling approximately 1,047,000 square feet.  The division which includes custodial operations had a combined budget in excess of $2.3 million in 2017 and included 16.47 budgeted FTE.  The division oversees an additional $500,000 (average) worth of capital/equipment projects annually.

The grounds staff includes 6 FTE and roughly 20 additional seasonal employees that care for over 1200 acres of breathtaking views, wooded trails and serene lakes and ponds.  In 2018, the division implemented a new park entrance fee for priority parks and formally became an enterprise operation with a budget just over $1 million.

Project management including experience developing bids and project specifications experience required.  Supervisory experience and experience demonstrating the use of quantitative measuring to show results, developing standards to set performance and maintenance expectations and using data to develop a maintenance strategy and program to properly maintain facilities is strongly desired.

Qualified candidates must possess:
•    Bachelor’s degree and 6 years progressively responsible experience OR associates degree and 10 years of experience
•    Valid Wisconsin driver’s license required.
