NM Medical Group IT Operations supports the computer systems for the UNM Medical Group. This includes desktops, laptops, printers, servers, and various applications that run on these systems. The UNM Medical Group IT Operations department is looking for a Desktop Support Analyst Il to work in the IT Operations support group. This position works closely with various departments and clinics within the UNM Medical Group to resolve incidents and requests with the computer systems environment. This position will be responsible for resolving a wide variety of computer issues that can include; Windows Deployment  Services, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, replacing hardware, installing software, account management within Active Directory, network shares, and 3rd party business applications. The IT Operations support group provides support through various means; direct on-site support, telephone support, E-mail support, and remote assistance. Candidates for this position should have experience troubleshooting and resolving computer hardware and software problems. It is desired that they have a technical understanding of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems (client/server) and the Microsoft Office suite of applications. Candidates should be comfortable working directly with customers whether that is over the phone or in person, and have good communication skills to effectively give technical guidance to a variety of customers.

Under general supervision, provides user support, general problem analysis and resolution, technical assistance, and training for information systems. May lead or guide the work of others.


  1. Performs general problem solving and assistance on diverse software applications and hardware systems for department users.
  2. Provides individual and/or group instruction and training to staff, students, and/or faculty on computer hardware and software.
  3. Writes and maintains user instructions.
  4. Performs routine hardware and software maintenance and assists in proper upkeep and utilization of systems.
  5. May review, evaluate, and make recommendations on proposals for hardware or software acquisitions.
  6. Provides technical assistance and maintenance support to departmental end users.
  7. Maintains applicable records including user lists, user accounts and security, and equipment inventory.
  8. May supervise or provide functional direction to lower graded staff and/or student employees performing the same or similar type of work.
  9. Maintains knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  10. Serves as team leader on technology projects with moderate scope and impact, providing some direction and integration of staff work.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


High school diploma or GED with at least 1 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.


  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to determine computer problems and to coordinate hardware and/or software solutions.
  • Ability to provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff in area of specialty.
  • Ability to communicate technical guidance and instruction to users on the use of PC and/or mainframe applications and systems.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of available computing and/or network hardware and peripheral equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve computer problems and to coordinate hardware and/or software solutions.


  • Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by the department.
  • Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance, is required.
  • Must provide proof of varicella & MMR immunity or obtain vaccinations within 90 days of employment.
  • Must obtain annual influenza vaccination.
  • If this position is assigned to a clinical area, successful candidate will be required to complete a pre-placement medical evaluation/health screen.  Required N-95 mask fitting, testing, vaccinations to include annual TST and Hepatitis will be determined based on location and nature of position.


  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
