Position: Global Health-Nutrition Director

Location: Head office -  USA- Washington DC; UK – London or France – Lyon. Remote postings may be considered if candidate has right to work in remote location. Must have the ability to travel to Relief International’s field locations in Asia, Africa and the Middle East; with 30-40% international travel required.

Position Summary:

The Global Health-Nutrition Director provides direction and leadership for Health and Nutrition work across humanitarian, transition, and development settings. This position sets the strategic direction for program quality and works with global, regional, and national teams to deliver results. They develop ideas to address complex challenges, create funding opportunities, and foster partnerships to advance and expand our impact in fragile settings.

The position focuses on program design (including work in supporting new business development) ; technical advising during program implementation (including on activities and M&E) ; and facilitating learning within the organization from lessons learned on RI projects and best practices within the health sector globally.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

New Business Development (40% LOE):

  • Work with Program Development (PD) and Country Offices to secure institutional funding by providing tangible inputs into the PD process. Must have US Government donor funding experience with European Union (EU), DFID, and UN Agencies including UNICEF, WHO and UNHCR highly preferred.

  • Develop global/regional partnerships that enhance RI’s comparative advantage in the humanitarian-development space.

  • Create marketable concepts that further the humanitarian-development field and align with RI’s strategic vision.

Program Support and Quality Assurance (40% LOE):

  • Lead and develop evidence-based programming throughout Relief International (RI) to delivering results in fragile settings.

  • Guide and support Country Offices to deliver high-quality health and nutrition programming.

  • Shape and implement strategies to ensure that RI develops, maintains, and grows technical capacity in health and nutrition programming at all levels of the organization.

  • Develop state-of-the-art quality technical products, share and promote them widely across the organization.

  • Provide Country Offices with solution-oriented, actionable advice that is adaptable to the operational context.

  • Guide Country Office to meaningfully incorporate cross-cutting issues such as protection, gender, disability, conflict sensitivity, and environmental issues into programs.

  • Contribute to the Technical Assistance Department's shared work-plan and initiatives.

Other Duties (20%):

  • Represent RI at global health and nutrition fora.

  • Cover critical capacity gaps for Country Offices during staff transitions and help recruit and screen country and regional health and nutrition senior staff.

  • Respond to acute emergencies with the Humanitarian Department.

  • Coordinate on cross-departmental initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Expert understanding of health systems in development and humanitarian contexts.

  • Knowledge of industry-standard approaches to health and nutrition and practical experience in their implementation.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, short deadlines, and high-stress environments.

  • Experience supporting health and nutrition programs in Fragile, Conflict, and Violence affected countries.

  • Ability to write technical documents, included concept note and proposal technical sections, and deliver professional presentations in English.

  • Resourcefulness and creativity.

  • Direct experience in proposal development for institutional donors (at least one US government required and at least one other of the following: OFDA, USAID, ECHO, DG-DEVCO, DFID, and GAC).

  • Postgraduate degree in a related field.

  • Ten years of related work experience with progressively more responsible roles.
