Accountabilities:  As Paralegal, you will work in the Office of the Corporate Secretary to provide expertise and hands-on support in a broad range of Paralegal functions including corporate record keeping, preparation of minutes for Board meetings, corporate filings, research, analysis and tracking of pertinent information and high-level administration. The Paralegal provides information on services, programs and processes as well as answering general corporate questions.

As a member of the Office of Corporate Secretary you will also be required to participate in project work. Other assignments may include support for Emera’s AGM, follow-up required for shareholder related information, specific corporate transactions and direct contact with the Board of Directors.

You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.

Skills, Capabilities and Experience: You are an experienced Paralegal with a minimum of 5 years experience in that role. You possess a university degree in a related field, BA or equivalent. Specific Paralegal training is mandatory. You are a hands-on practitioner with the ability to manage multiple projects in a diverse environment. You demonstrate an ability to clearly articulate and engage with Board and senior Executive members, and an ability to understand and anticipate the impact of decisions at various levels. You demonstrate effective communication by applying excellent writing and comprehension skills. Customer service, problem solving and decision making skills are essential. You also possess strong analytical and quantitative skills and are attentive to detail in a dynamic environment. 

You are proactive, results and team-oriented, possess a high level of energy and are committed to learning. Our successful candidate also possesses solid business acumen, is customer-focused and works well both independently and on teams.  Proficiency in the MS Office Suite of software (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook), and Internet Explorer are mandatory.
