As a member of NSP’s Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) team, the Snr ETL Developer is responsible, working under the technical guidance of the Data Architect, for the design, development and testing of workflows, business rules, scripts and custom coding for data movement into target analytic data structures both in batch and in real time, as dictated by requirements. The individual in this position has a high degree of competency in ETL development and has significant, recent hands-on experience with both Microsoft SSIS and Oracle’s Fusion Middleware tool suite. 

The ETL developer has a sound understanding of ETL standards and best practices and ensures the quality and efficiency of the ETL processes through same.  In addition to ETL development, the individual in this position has a solid knowledge of and experience with real time data movement using EAI and/or service bus tools, data profiling, data quality assessment and data analysis techniques.

Responsibilities:

The ETL Developer will:

  • In adherence with standards provided by the Data Architect, create detailed ETL/data movement design specifications.
  • Have primary responsibility for the development and testing of ETL workflows, business rules, custom code and scripts to cleanse, transform and integrate data from a variety of sources (structured, semi-structured, etc.) into analytic data structures
  • Create detailed designs, develop and test real time or near-real time processes to meet requirements where low-latency data is required using tools such as Oracle Fusion Middleware or other tools such as Kafka.
  • Work with and assist data analysts in profiling and assessing the quality of data, both in source systems and in analytic data structures.
  • Play the secondary role of data warehouse administrator supporting in-production applications.
  • Be responsible for performing code reviews & testing results for work done by consultants & junior team members.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to BIA team members about ETL skills and competencies to more junior ETL developer resources.

Skills, Capabilities and Experience:

  • Minimum requirement is a post-secondary degree in computer science, information systems or data/ information management or a suitable combination of formal education and experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of recent experience with ETL/data integration in a business intelligence system context and must include recent hands-on experience with Microsoft SSIS and Oracle Data Integrator.
  • Experience working with dimensional data models and other analytic data structures.
  • Deep knowledge of and experience with SQL Programming, both procedural and non-procedural, on the Oracle database platform. 
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with an application programming language such as Java or Python a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment characterized by multiple, competing/shifting priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form (i.e., through technical documentation).
  • Effective knowledge of BI-specific delivery methodologies & familiarity with agile development methods and techniques
