JOB TITLE: Project Controls Analyst
DEPARTMENT: Project Controls & Reporting
LOCATION: Nisku, Alberta
Implement and continually refine all project controls processes and reporting including cost tracking and forecasting, progress reporting & scheduling and change management to ensure it meets the needs of the business. 
Major responsibilities would include:
Implement and maintenance of procedures and systems to achieve effective control of all projects within Michels Canada and support the implementation of project control procedures and systems
Participating in preparation of project cost reports assuming responsibility for their overall accuracy, completeness and timeliness; coordinating the cost analysis activities of multiple projects
Establishing liaisons with project teams and clients on all matters relating to cost and schedule development and control
Making periodic site visits to review cost reporting
  • Drive the implementation of Corporate Project Controls program working with the Project Controls Specialist
  • Utilize existing cost reporting, control and forecasting tools
  • Establish in line with existing guidelines the project Work Breakdown Structure during the development stage of a project that helps facilitate budget development, cost control, schedule management, progress & performance and meets accounting requirements
  • Integrate with onsite project control requirements including scheduling, performance management, change management, reporting and invoicing
  • Collect and compile internal and external cost, schedule and progress information through standard templates & procedures; accountable to ensure proper coding of project costs; monitor and analyze project costs against commitments and planned values; perform earned value analysis and forecasting to report cost, hour and key quantity variances
  • Produce reports that integrate with executive summary reports of project progress, cash flow analysis, forecast revenue and cost
  • Key liaison between head office management and site management on project performance
  • Prepare project status reports with variance analysis for the Project Management Team; participate in project status meetings, and present summarized cost and schedule data, highlighting cost and schedule issues
  • Support the identification & reporting of Cost and Schedule impacts and support recovery planning / mitigation where necessary
  • Collaborate with Contracts personnel to ensure accurate and timely billing is produced according to the contract
  • 5-10+ years in a Project Controls Role
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (2007), Primavera Project Manager (V P6.7) and Microsoft Projects
  • Experience in project controls, contract administration and construction management preferably within the pipeline and infrastructure business
  • Experience with Viewpoint would be an asset
  • University degree in Engineering or Business or technical diploma, or equivalent experience
  • Project Management or Business Administration courses or experience – Including a Certified Cost Engineer, Project Management Professional
  • Technical knowledge with a degree or background in engineering or a technologist would be an asset
  • Change Management experience implementing new systems and processes

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet
  • Position may require travel.  Candidate must be able to travel to the US
