Project Engineer

Michels Canada currently has an opportunity for a Project Engineer for our Tunneling division around the Toronto area. Qualified candidates must possess a BS degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with prior civil construction internship or work experience. Experience in underground utility construction a strong asset. Position also requires proficient computer software skills specifically with CAD, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Project. Strong attentions to detail, ability to work in a fast paced work environment, proficient oral and written communication skills are required.



  • Actively participate in the company Safety Program.

  • Assist Project Manager, Safety Officer and/or Project Superintendent on coordination of daily activities and technical assignments.

  • Ensure Implementation and Compliance with SWPPP

  • Ensure all necessary permits are in place and monitor/report compliance

  • Prepare and maintain an accurate Change Order Log and Costing Program

  • Prepare, submit and maintain construction documents (submittals, project/job reports, invoices, schedules, revenue/cost analyses and projections, claim documentation, traffic control plans, payroll reports, subcontract documents and change orders) as direct by the Project Manager.

  • Coordination of subcontractors, material and equipment suppliers.

  • When necessary act as a liaison with client and other project representatives to accomplish project objectives.

  • Prepare and Plan layout of work and survey as required.

  • Implement, monitor and maintain company policies, reports and procedures.



  • 1 or more years project engineering experience in underground utility construction and/or tunneling.

  • BS Civil Eng degree or equivalent

  • Works in field construction environment. Some day and overnight travel required.

  • Working knowledge of typical construction software including MS Project and Primavera

  • Candidate must have a professional and ethical personal presentation and show previous success in the development of client, subcontractor, and business and peer relationships.It will be the responsibility of the candidate to show evidence that the experience level has been achieved
