POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Estimator is a key member of the Michels Canada Operations team. Along with the Project Management team, the Estimator is responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings specializing in their division. The estimator ensures that their team has everything required to successfully bid and win the project.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.  

Assemble accurate, timely and well organized estimates, including bids, construction management and design-builds

  1.  

Organize sub-contractor quotes when the bid is successful, re-writing binders and assisting the buy-out process

  1.  

Review bid requirements for projects, prepare and attend site walks, review and confirm geotechnical conditions, draft risk matrix and prepare take-offs as directed.

  1.  

Work with Procurement department’s assistance to secure vendor pricing.

  1.  

Identify, locate, contact and maintain relationships with subcontractors, to ensure secure required quotes are received

  1.  

Work within tight deadlines, dedicate overtime if necessary. Approach workload with sense of urgency and accuracy.

  1.  

Monitor the success of a project, noting potential challenges and building relationships with sub-trades for future opportunities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field, 3-5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination

  •  

Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record as determined by the DOT Operations Director and Michels Legal Department.

  •  

Competent with Microsoft Office, MS Project and Adobe. Estimating proficiency preferred using HCSS Estimating Software

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  

Civil construction and tunneling experience highly desired

  •  

Competent with estimating software

  •  

Strong verbal and written communication skills

  •  

Experience in reading plans and specifications

 

COMPETENCIES:

  •  

Able to prioritize work assignments and manage time effectively

  •  

Able to effectively multitask and with changes in priorities while still meeting tight deadlines

  •  

Experience in development and ability to work with a variety of different stakeholder groups

  •  

Action Oriented

  •  

Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including strong writing, editing and proofreading abilities

  •  

Desire to work in a team environment, working towards common goals and objectives
