Chief Estimator

Description

This position will lead the estimating team in support of large scale projects utilizing cross divisional support.  Critical for success are effective time management and communication skills.   

The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include, but not limited to:

  • Assist in the development, training and evaluation of the estimating team. 
  • Review bid requirements for projects ensuring all aspects of the project are documented and accounted for.
  • Prepare takeoffs and work with Procurement department to secure vendor pricing.
  • Facilitate the resolution of complex problems associated with bid/project. 
  • Evaluate and mitigate risk following company and divisional policies and procedures. 
  • Develop accurate estimates and schedules utilizing available tools, industry and estimating best practices. Develop and sustain working relationships with clients through direct communication.
  • Establish estimating budget and manage spend accordingly. Ensure incurred costs are accounted for. Properly turn over bid documents and sub buyout information to Project Manager in a timely manner. 
  • Promote and elevate Michels culture and core values. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a minimum of ten years of prior civil construction project management and/or estimating experience including highway construction, excavation, or other related, with a proven track record of profitability.  Applicants must be able to handle multiple projects at one time, possess the ability to successfully understand the implications of project terms and conditions, manage tight deadlines, demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, possess ability to collaborate with various levels of management and demonstrate proficiency in computer software skills specifically with HCSS estimating software.
