The role of Director, Lean Strategy leads the analysis, development, and implementation of lean actions across the enterprise with the common goal of reducing cycle times, accelerating throughput, improving productivity, raising FPYs, reducing CoGS, and expanding gross margins.  This role reports to the VP Quality, and interfaces cross-functionally across the enterprise; e.g. General Managers, Program Managers, Support functions, and Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain personnel.  Additional short-duration but business-impactful strategic assignments may be required.

Specific Responsibilities:


  • Working with GMs, PMs, et al, proactively analyze CoGS for variances to budgets/standard work

  • Apply pareto and other analytical approaches to define targets of lean opportunity.Develop a slate of targets/effects

  • Facilitate lean assessments with process SMEs and stakeholders using SIPOC, VSM, DMAIC, etc. methods


  • From the data, identify the specific processes for intense lean focus

  • Dissect targeted processes at a usefully detailed level focusing on FPYs, cycle times, queues, wastes, net costs, etc.


  • With the process owners and stakeholders, design improved processes using process mapping and other analytic techniques

  • Develop implementation plans including NRE, RE, ROI, NPV, etc., prepare and brief proposals, and gain mgmt. approvals

  • Develop control plans and as may be required any performance metrics to gage effectiveness


  • With the process owners and stakeholders, Implement approved lean action project plans

  • Independently gage effects, and provide regular updates on progress, issues, needs, plans, effects


  • Confirm effectiveness of implemented actions via financial reporting; e.g. CoGS, gross margins, %PPV, EAC, etc.

  • Confirm efficiencies via FPYs, CoPQs, touch vs queue times, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS engineering; MBA preferred

  • Lean Six Sigma experience; Blackbelt preferred

  • Management consulting experience focused upon lean strategies and actions preferred

  • Outstanding communication skills both written and oral are required

  • Minitab or similar statistical analysis computer tools preferred

  • MS Office suite of products required e.g. Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Visio

  • Familiarity with financial reporting, interpretation, and analyses

  • Familiarity with ERP systems; SAP preferred

Physical Requirements: 

  • This role is performed typically in an office environment but on occasion will require travel and working in an aerospace manufacturing environment either within Aurora or with suppliers to Aurora and potentially off-shift.  Physical requirements include the capabilities to safely operate in a manufacturing environment as well using company-provided computer equipment/tools.

Shift Requirements: 

  • Normally first shift, but potentially off-shift work may on occasion be required.
