Job Qualifications:

The Dynamics Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the dynamic design, loads development, and performance analysis of manned and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).  This will include aircraft mechanical systems such as landing gear, brakes, steering, and primary flight control mechanisms.  May also include ground based system designs such as launch and recovery apparatus. The engineer will develop CAE models of complex multi-body dynamic systems, write test plans, conduct testing to verify performance, post-process data, and document the results and conclusions in a test report.  The engineer will work closely with the structural analysis group to develop and apply operational loads to traditional strength analysis methods.  The engineer will also develop component specifications to be used for design and component selection of mechanical systems.

This position requires a sense of urgency, attention to detail, multi-tasking ability, and thorough follow-up capabilities. The ideal candidate must be analytical while using acquired experience to work pragmatically, capable of working within deadlines, demonstrate high standards, thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and work with minimal supervision.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Dynamics modeling of complex, multi-body physical systems using ADAMS (VI-Aircraft or ADAMS/CAR preferred), Simulink, or similar dynamics code.

  • Perform Finite Element Analysis of components or structures for strength, stability, stiffness, and conversion to super-elements (MNF generation).

  • Develop MATLAB scripts and data processing to support dynamic analysis.

  • Review and validate mechanical system installations and components through simulation, analysis, and test data interpretation.

  • Test plan development, test direction, analysis of test data, identify issues and develop solutions in detailed test reports.

  • Identify suitable hardware to meet performance requirements.

  • Support slide deck generation for reviews and meetings, and present results of analysis.

  • Conduct aircraft landing and ground maneuvering analysis and simulation.

  • Conduct Monte Carlo simulation of multi-body dynamic systems.

  • Perform failure analysis and serve as the SME for RCCA efforts related to mechanical system dynamics.

  • Support flight test operations and troubleshooting of mechanical system operational problems.

  • Provide support for controls and algorithm development.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS in Engineering or related discipline with 5 to 10 years of experience in dynamic modeling, analysis, and development. MS preferred
  • Expert at analyzing complex, multi-body dynamic systems, functions, and problems to find creative, logical, and effective solutions

  • Experience modeling complex, multi-body physical systems using ADAMS (VI-Aircraft or ADAMS/CAR preferred), Simulink, or similar

  • Experience with NASTRAN or HyperWorks

  • Familiar with using CAD systems (CATIA or SolidWorks preferred)

  • Understanding of structural dynamics and vibration, including practical experience applying analysis to physical systems

  • Experience with test definition, design, execution, post processing and report generation

  • Experience with mechanical systems including hydraulic, electro-mechanical, mechanisms, and associated manufacturing and assembly techniques

  • Experience with aircraft landing and ground maneuvering analysis and simulation, or similar automotive analysis

  • Experience with development and flight certification of aircraft mechanical systems, including a working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 21, and/or military flight release process.

  • Experience with Labview or other similar software desirable.

  • Fabrication and machine shop skills are desirable.

  • Must be a US Citizen

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
